Inspection report for children’s home - monitoring visit: 2780876 1 Registered provider: Sunshine Children’s Homes Ltd
p.1
Inspected under the social care common inspection framework
p.1
Information about this children’s home
This home was registered with Ofsted on 31 January 2025 and is privately owned. It provides care for up to three children with social emotional and difficulties. The manager registered with Ofsted at the same time as the home.
p.1
This monitoring visit
This monitoring visit was led by the responsible individual and the deputy manager. The registered manager was not available and has not been actively working in the home. No children have lived in the home since the home’s registration.
p.1
This monitoring visit
Leaders and managers are aware that there are some shortfalls that need to be addressed. They are committed to making improvements to meet the needs of vulnerable children.
p.1
This monitoring visit
The deputy manager has recently been recruited to support the registered manager. Leaders and managers are actively recruiting staff. However, safer recruitment processes are not consistently followed. For example, previous employment history is not always explored. More could be done by the provider to assure themselves of staff suitability so that copies of qualifications are available on file and provide evidence that references are verified.
p.1
This monitoring visit
Leaders and managers have not yet established a system for recording staff training, and they have not reviewed the needs and requirements of staff. Staff do not have access to essential training to support safeguarding practice, de-escalation techniques, or physical intervention. Staff supervision has not been recorded, and staff have not completed an induction.
p.1
This monitoring visit
The provider has not appointed an independent visitor, and there have been no independent visits or reports since the home first became registered. This is a breach of regulations. Inspection report for children’s home - monitoring visit: 2780876 2 Leaders and managers have plans to follow up on the recommendations of a fire safety assessment that has been completed. However, at the time of this monitoring visit, this had not been completed. Furthermore, leaders and managers were unable to provide documents to evidence that the appropriate fire, health and safety procedures are followed.
p.1
This monitoring visit
The home is well decorated, with leaders and managers focused on creating a welcoming, child-centred environment. The bedrooms are spacious and furnished well to create a comfortable home for children.
p.2
This monitoring visit
As a result of this monitoring visit, nine requirements and one recommendation have been raised. Inspection report for children’s home - monitoring visit: 2780876 3
