The experienced and qualified childminder has a good understanding of how children learn. She has a very secure knowledge of the children in her care and their preferred way of learning. She welcomes children into a child-friendly, home- from-home, play environment. The childminder plans a broad curriculum that supports children's interests and the skills they need to be independent learners. This helps to prepare children for their transition to school. The childminder places a strong focus on children's emotional development. She has a very calm and gentle approach with the children.

Therefore, even very young children are happy, comfortable and confident in the home and settle quickly. Children have established close, trusting bonds with the childminder and her family. For example, they understand the importance of washing their hands when visiting the bathroom and before eating. Children are fully supported as they transition from nappies to using the toilet.

p.2
