p.1
The provision is good
The childminder greets the children and their parents warmly on arrival and finds out how they are, which helps her to plan for the day. Children arrive happy and ready to learn. They immediately immerse themselves in the activities the childminder has prepared. For example, children enjoy chasing the bubbles through the air. They shout 'pop' as they catch them. Children confidently make their needs known to the childminder, for example, when they want more bubbles to be blown.
p.2
The provision is good
The childminder plans a broad curriculum based on the children's interests and needs. She provides many opportunities for children to develop their physical skills. For example, children enjoy cutting the wooden fruit with the wooden knives. The childminder explains that she is encouraging their fine motor skills, and this activity helps them to learn how to cut their own fruit at snack time. She extends this activity further by providing real fruit and vegetables for the children to touch and taste.
p.2
The provision is good
The childminder has high expectations and children's behaviour is good. She uses distractions incredibly well to resolve any minor issues. This has a positive impact as children respond well to the change in direction of their play.

need to do better?
n The childminder keeps her knowledge current. She signs up to local authority emails, liaises with other childminders and accesses further training. She is reflective and has sought views from parents to evaluate her provision. This helps her to make any changes to her practice considering feedback she receives. She has a clear vision for the future and has further ideas for how she will develop her childminding business. n The childminder gathers information from the parents about their children when they start. She uses this as a baseline to build on with further observations and assessments. The childminder has only been operating for a relatively short period of time, and her planning is still in its infancy. Nevertheless, she knows the children well and plans activities based on their interests and development. However, she does not always focus precisely on children's individual next steps, to ensure that all children fully benefit from the opportunities she provides.
p.2
need to do better?
n The childminder supports children's personal development well. She has good relationships with the children and always interacts sensitively with them. For example, during personal care routines, she respects children's privacy and asks them if it is okay to change their nappies. The childminder promotes personal hygiene well. She encourages children from a young age to be independent and wash their hands. Children choose the colour flannel they would like and keep this for the day. This helps to minimise cross infection. Overall, due to the

For example, she spontaneously sings with the children and introduces new language when reading. The childminder helps children to develop their speaking skills very effectively. She consistently ensures children hear the correct pronunciation of words by repeating these back to them. This helps to support children's developing language and vocabulary. n The childminder supports children to develop positive attitudes to learning. She regularly praises them on their achievements. The childminder provides activities to encourage children's perseverance. For example, children concentrate as they balance on the stepping stones, tentatively stepping on to each one. They smile contentedly when they complete the activity. n The childminder develops good relationships with the parents. They speak very
