p.1

The provision is outstanding

The childminder plans an exceptional curriculum that precisely targets the needs of all the children. Consequently, children make excellent progress in their learning, very often exceeding their age and stage of development. Children have exceptional language skills and vocabulary for their age. For example, when they recall their recent visit to a farm, they explain to visitors that they saw a Ryeland sheep, a cockerel and a cow. Younger toddlers make the sounds of the animals and copy words they hear from their older friends and the childminder. They are able to put two and three words together. The skills and learning demonstrated by children is superb, given their ages and stages of development. This embedded learning can clearly be attributed to the extremely high-quality teaching practice.

The provision is outstanding

Children demonstrate that they are extremely confident in their surroundings. They move around the childminder's home with a sense of belonging. The childminder is respectful and kind, and children feel safe due to her warm manner. She understands their feelings and is always courteous and thoughtful. Children are kind, respectful and consistently well-mannered. Older children are gentle and patient with younger children. They tell their younger friends that they are doing really well when they try to put their own shoes on and comment on how much they like their new wellington boots and waterproofs. Younger children beam with pride and say 'thank you' politely.

n The childminder teaches children to be extremely independent in their play and learning. Even very young children attempt tasks for themselves throughout the day, such as getting dressed to go outside. The childminder strongly believes that independence skills positively impact children's confidence and self-esteem. Children are very confident in their self-care, such as toileting and washing hands. The childminder is diligent in her supervision of children but does not interfere when she knows that children are capable of doing things for themselves. Children are extremely well-prepared for school. n The childminder completely understands how to plan activities and how to enhance children's learning while they play. She bases her teaching and interactions on what children need to learn next. The childminder demonstrates highly effective teaching. She consistently extends children's learning to provide

them with the challenge and stimulation they each need. n Children demonstrate consistently high levels of persistence even when they encounter difficulties. The childminder is always on hand to offer the very low level of support children need to overcome these swiftly. For example, when young toddlers struggle to fill up a syringe with water, the childminder uses her hand to guide the toddlers' actions to begin with and offers gentle words of

22 July 2025 encouragement to help them to succeed independently. n The childminder's drive to continually evaluate her provision and make improvements is excellent. She makes highly effective use of training to develop her setting even further. For example, recent training has inspired her to enhance her curriculum for literacy while out in the community and in woodland spaces. n The childminder establishes and maintains exceptional relationships with parents. From the outset, she works tirelessly to gain and value their input into their children's learning and development. Parents comment that their children have developed excellent communication and language skills and high levels of confidence. n Children know what it is to be healthy. The childminder uses every opportunity to talk to children about healthy foods. Children talk to visitors about needing protein for their muscles and to help them to grow and how fruit helps them to

'not get poorly'. Children run around in the fresh air in the childminder's spacious garden and enjoy educational visits, such as to the farm, an outdoor planned forest school session or to visit a local market. They learn about caring for nature, animals and history. n The childminder's in-depth understanding of early mathematics, alongside her highly ambitious curriculum, means that children make exceptional progress in this area of learning. Young children can count to three using their finger to point to dots on a dice, while older children recognise the number of dots without needing to count them. Older children show a great understanding of ordinal numbers, as they use the language of first, second and third in their play.
