p.1

The provision is good

The childminder has a calm disposition and her warm interactions help children to feel safe and secure. Children enjoy their time with this friendly and nurturing childminder. The childminder plans her environment around the interests of the children. As such, they are active learners in the childminder's homely setting. The childminder is quick to follow their lead and encourages them to explore their imagination. For example, as young children pretend to cook cakes in the role-play kitchen, the childminder places her order for her pretend food. This helps children to become engrossed in their pretend play.

p.2

The provision is good

The childminder has developed a good curriculum to ensure that children have the skills they need to support their future learning. For instance, younger children use various one-handed tools in play dough. Furthermore, they mix different colour paints with various sizes of brushes. This helps children strengthen the small muscles in their hands for later writing.

p.2

The provision is good

The childminder has high expectations of children's behaviour. She gives consistent messages to them to help them to understand rules and boundaries. When children need support, the childminder calmly gives children the reassurance they need. Children's behaviour is good.

need to do better?

n The childminder has a good knowledge of how children learn and develop. She uses her observations and assessments of children's learning to plan their next steps effectively. The childminder targets her training to refresh her knowledge. For instance, she has reviewed the activities in her curriculum to be more precise for children's next steps in learning. This helps the childminder plan her teaching to enable children to make good progress from their starting points. n The childminder supports children's communication and language skills well. She weaves songs and rhymes into everyday activities. Children move their bodies as they choose a wooden spoon with a picture of their favourite nursery rhymes to sing. Furthermore, the childminder repeats unfamiliar words in children's play. This helps broaden their good language. All children are confident communicators. n The childminder fosters a love of reading. Children engage actively during a

group story session, repeating familiar phrases and copying actions. The childminder encourages children to recall stories. Furthermore, they sing songs and learn the days of the week. The childminder skilfully sets up activities that sequence children's development of early literacy skills. For example, older children recognise letters that are important to them, such as the initials of their name and that of their family members.

21 July 2025 n Children develop an understanding of their local community. The childminder uses daily events to broaden children's knowledge. For example, she takes them to the local library for rhyme time. Furthermore, the childminder regularly takes children out for walks in the local parks and woodlands. These experiences help children to understand the world around them. n Overall, the childminder helps children to develop their independence and self- care skills. For example, she teaches children to wipe their noses and to use the toilet. This helps them to be independent. However, sometimes, the childminder does not consistently encourage children's independence. For example, at times, she is too quick to complete tasks for children instead of letting them have a go themselves. n The childminder promotes friendships among children very well. She regularly praises children and is respectful of their chosen play. When children arrive at

the setting, they warmly hug their friends to say hello. The childminder's places high priority on kindness, and this is reflected in children's positive behaviour towards each other. n The childminder works in close partnership with the children's parents. She uses various methods to share information with them about their children's care and education at her setting. For example, she shares different ideas on how to support children when they are toilet training. This helps parents to continue children's learning and development at home. However, the childminder has not developed working partnerships with other settings that the children attend. This means that children who attend other settings sometimes lack consistency in their learning.
