p.1

The provision is good

Children have fun with this knowledgeable and experienced childminder. They participate in an exciting range of learning opportunities, both in the childminder's home and on their frequent outings in the local area. Children talk to each other about their favourite activities, including going to the local park. The childminder knows the children very well and responds well to their individual needs. For example, she provides them with gentle reassurance when needed. Children are happy and enjoy doing things for each other, such as picking up toys for the younger children when they drop them as part of a game.

The provision is good

The childminder provides a rich and broad curriculum. She supports children to make particularly good progress in developing their mathematical understanding. Children confidently recognise numbers and learn how to count objects by lining them up, counting one at a time and checking their answers. The childminder encourages children to persevere when they find something difficult and praises their efforts. Children learn to problem solve and experiment as they play. For example, they investigate how to build moving parts on a sand tray and then pour sand on the wheels to make them turn. Children are engaged and excited by their learning.

make such rapid progress during their free-play activities. On these occasions, while children are happy, quieter children sometimes receive less of the childminder's time to help them develop their confidence and understanding. n The childminder provides frequent opportunities for children to develop their social skills. She works well alongside other childminders in her local area to ensure children play and make friendships with a wider group of children. She recognises the importance of children learning skills from other children, such as learning how to put their coats and shoes on independently.
