p.1

The provision is good

Children are settled, confident and content in the childminder's home. They clearly enjoy her company and that of other children. The childminder ensures this is the case through her cheerful and positive demeanour. She smiles and laughs with the children as they go about their day. The trusting relationships between her and the children are clear to see. Children show a strong sense of belonging and that they see the childminder as someone they can trust to take good care of them.

p.2

The provision is good

The childminder shows the same strong practice as an educator as she does as a carer. She carefully plans for children's learning, focusing well on what children most need to learn next. At the heart of her curriculum is a strong focus on supporting children's communication and language development. She carefully plans how she will introduce children to words and phrases to build their vocabulary. She uses routine times well to encourage children's listening skills. For example, she organises mealtimes in ways that ensure children need to listen and follow instructions. She plans equally as thoroughly how she will teach children the skills they need to begin to understand and manage their emotions and behaviour. Children progress very well under the childminder's guidance.

need to do better?

n Because of the quality and effectiveness of the childminder's teaching, children remember well what they have been taught. For example, children develop a deep understanding of the content of different stories, which supports their language and literacy development. The childminder focuses on core stories, planning well so that children can explore these stories in different ways through listening, watching and joining in. Children show this helps them remember well the words and phrases and story structure, as well as providing opportunities to develop their creativity and imagination. n The childminder knows the children well. She makes accurate assessments about children's progress and clearly identifies if they need some extra support with specific aspects of their learning. She then puts in place individualised strategies that help children close gaps in their skills and catch up well with their

peers. For example, the childminder uses picture boards to help children understand what is going to happen next, which helps them to cooperate with routines confidently. n Children are developing well into curious and independent learners. The childminder carefully plans the learning environment to enable and encourage children to make choices and uses resources purposefully. Resources and activities capture children's interest and the childminder interacts with children in ways that encourages them to use resources purposefully and for sustained periods of time.

need to do better?

3 July 2025 n The childminder helps children well to become independent and resilient. She shows them how to wash their own hands and teaches children to carefully tidy up at the end of activities. Children show they are proud of all the things they can do for themselves. The childminder also encourages children to take small risks as they learn to challenge themselves and keep trying. For example, children trust the childminder when she encourages them to keep practising as they master jumping from one level to another. Children keep trying because they know the childminder is there to keep them safe. n The childminder plans a wide range of experiences that broaden children's understanding of their local community and the wider world. This gives children a sense of who they are and their place in the world. Children visit shops that sell foods from around the world. They learn about different festivals and about

people who are there to help them. Children can recall visits to meet police officers and firefighters. n Children are safe. The childminder supervises them closely and teaches them about road safety. However, she has not yet incorporated opportunities into the curriculum for children to learn how to respond to the potential dangers posed from the increasing role technology will play in their lives, to fully enhance their ability to keep themselves safe. n Parents speak very highly of the childminder. They recognise how well their children develop in her care. The childminder uses these warm partnerships well to further support parents to continue their children's learning at home. For example, she takes children to the library to choose books to take home to share with their parents, to further their developing early literacy skills.
