p.1

The provision is good

The childminder ensures children are provided with a safe and trusting environment. This helps children to be confident and happy learners. The childminder ensures that children are settled in well. She gets to know each child's individual needs as well, talking to the parents to gain a broad understanding of each child. Children's interests are supported very well by the childminder, who is responsive to their needs. This helps children to engage in learning. For example, children make salt dough dinosaurs, which helps them to experiment with their senses and build their fine motor skills. The following day, children paint the dinosaurs they have created and experiment with paint colours of their choice. The childminder ensures children's learning is extended and built upon throughout the week with a broad curriculum.

The provision is good

Children learn about the importance of independence to support their life skills. The childminder teaches children to wash their hands before meals and brush their teeth after lunch. This helps children to learn about how to keep their bodies healthy. Children eat healthy, freshly prepared food and learn of the importance of tidying up after themselves. They take their cups and plates to the kitchen after they have eaten. The childminder is a positive role model to children, who behave well and have a good attitude to their learning.

n The childminder skilfully supports children, including those who speak English as an additional language, to become confident communicators. The childminder talks to children throughout the day, offering information and extending new vocabulary. For example, children hear words such as 'brontosaurus' and 'brachiosaurus', as their interest in a range of dinosaurs is extended. n The childminder evaluates her practice and teaching regularly to ensure her knowledge in early years is up to date and relevant. She completes training and reads evidence-based early years books to support her teaching. This helps to support her continuing good practice. n The childminder provides a curriculum that provides children with a wide range of learning experiences. Teaching is sequenced so that children learn in stages. The childminder uses regular assessment to identify how secure children's knowledge is before moving on to the next stage. However, on occasion, the

childminder does not always ensure that all children are challenged to support their engagement in learning consistently. n The childminder teaches children about nature and the importance of nurturing living things. For example, children plant flowers in the flowerpot. They make choices about which flowers they wish to plant and learn how to secure plants in the pot before watering them. Children demonstrate joy in the praise and

Children learn about boundaries in animal care to keep them safe and while also learning about compassion. n The childminder supports children's physical skills well with regular outings to activity spaces, where they can run, stretch and climb. Babies experiment with good-quality resources to learn how to grasp and manipulate objects. For example, babies experiment with the bead maze to support their small finger muscles. n The childminder is providing children with knowledge of the world around them. They have regular trips within the community. For example, children go to the local shops to buy organic fruit and vegetables. They visit museums, churches and the local mosque. This helps children embrace diversity and learn acceptance of the community around them. Children learn about the importance

of road safety and how to stay safe on public transport, when they travel by train. n The childminder is supporting children to develop a love of books. Children are taught to handle books with care, and listen with intent to stories, such as 'Ten Tiny Tadpoles'. Children interact when they listen to stories and count the tadpoles as they listen to the story evolve. n The childminder understands the importance of parent partnership. Parents speak highly of the childminder and appreciate the support and individualised learning their children receive.
