p.1

The provision is good

Children are happy and confident in the care of the nurturing childminder. The childminder has created a warm and welcoming environment to help children feel at home in her care. Children feel secure and settled in the childminder's care. The childminder promotes children's independence very well. For instance, children make choices about their play, manage aspects of their personal care and help to tidy away toys after they finish playing. These daily routines help children to develop confidence and important skills that prepare them well for starting school.

p.2

The provision is good

Children's behaviour is good. The childminder has high expectations for children's behaviour and reinforces these through positive role modelling and gentle guidance. She provides children with clear messages about taking turns, sharing and showing kindness to others. This helps children to behave well.

p.2

The provision is good

The childminder plans a broad curriculum that provides children with a wide range of learning experiences. For instance, she has identified that children are engaged in their play for long periods of time when playing with construction toys, such as bricks, nuts and bolts. They eagerly take turns to use the toy drill to attach the different shapes. The childminder extends children's learning as she teaches them to learn new words, identify colours and shapes. All children, including children who speak English as an additional language, gain good skills to prepare them for their next stage in their future learning.

n The childminder has a strong focus on outdoor learning. For example, children are excited to run out in the childminder's garden and enjoy using ride-on toys, blowing bubbles and playing with balls. They use sand dough and sensory resources, such as paints to be creative and develop their fine motor skills. The childminder effectively helps children to strengthen their small and large muscles as they play. n Overall, the childminder supports children's language and communication skills well. Children listen attentively as the childminder reads them stories they enjoy. The childminder joins in with children's play and interacts with them positively. She narrates during their play and uses a rich vocabulary to help them learn new words. However, at times, the childminder does not give children the time they need to respond to her questions and use their words, to enhance their language development even further.

p.2

need to do better?

n The childminder broadens children's experiences through daily outings. Children attend local playgroups and nearby local parks where they mix with other children from different backgrounds. This helps children to develop good social skills, widen their experiences and knowledge of the world around them.
