Inspection of Tiddlers Nursery Wyken Croft, Coventry, Warwickshire CV2 3AA
p.1
Overall effectiveness Inadequate
The quality of education Inadequate Behaviour and attitudes Inadequate Personal development Inadequate Leadership and management Inadequate Overall effectiveness at previous inspection Good
p.1
The provision is inadequate
Children's safety and well-being is not assured. Leaders do not keep a written record of all accidents that happen in the nursery. They do not respond appropriately when children are ill. Leaders do not have robust procedures in place to identify and minimise potential hazards to protect children from harm.
p.2
The provision is inadequate
Leaders group older babies, toddlers, and some pre-school children in the same room. Staff struggle to manage the broad age range and abilities of children within this group. This results in a lack of differentiated activities and an inconsistent approach to teaching and learning. Staff do not effectively risk assess the child's abilities when considering the safe use of equipment in the outdoor area. Consequently, children fall and hurt themselves. Staff deployment and organisation in the room used by the mixed-age group is inadequate. For example, several staff carry out routine tasks simultaneously, leaving children without close supervision when they are eating. This does not ensure children's safety.
p.2
The provision is inadequate
Staff do not manage behaviour effectively in the room where there is a mixed-age range of children. Staff do not support children to develop a positive attitude towards learning or to make the progress of which they are capable.
p.2
need to do better?
n Leaders have failed to follow effective procedures when children become ill while in the nursery, and have not reported this significant incident to Ofsted as required. Leaders do not accurately maintain required records to ensure the safe and efficient management of the nursery. For example, information about accidents and any first-aid administered by staff is not available if needed by a parent or medical professional. This does not keep children safe. n Leaders do not ensure that staff have sufficient knowledge to enable them to identify and remove hazards in the environment to ensure children's safety. Staff deployment is not always effective to meet children's needs. For example, staff are not always responsive in helping children to close cubicle doors to ensure their privacy is maintained when using the toilet facilities. n Staff working with the mixed-age range of children are not deployed effectively

to meet their individual needs. They are not aware of children's learning needs and so are unable to support or extend their learning. In addition, they do not provide the level of supervision the youngest children in this group need, including when they are eating. n Staff do not manage children's behaviour effectively. Weaknesses in planning for the mixed-age range of children results in older children in this room becoming frustrated, and they hit out at their younger peers when they try and use equipment in different ways to themselves. Staff tell children 'no' but do not

need to do better?
23 April 2025 explain the impact of their actions on others. At times, staff fail to notice unwanted behaviour. That said, in the pre-school room, children learn to take share and take turns. n Teaching practice, particularly in the mixed-age range room, is inadequate. Staff's understanding of how to build on what children already know and can do is weak. They do not consider what they want children to learn when planning activities and experiences. Although staff observe and assess children's development, they do not effectively plan activities and experiences linked to children's individual learning needs. In this group, children under two years of age are frequently overlooked by staff. They spend a lot of time wandering around without interactions from staff. Staff do not provide the oldest children in this group with opportunities to deepen and extend their learning. n Leaders have not identified weaknesses in the implementation of the nursery

curriculum. Not all staff understand how children learn. For example, children under two years of age play with sand. They concentrate intently as they scoop the sand and attempt to carefully transport it to the nearby water tray. Staff do not recognise this as a spontaneous learning moment and an opportunity to support and extend children's learning. Instead, they tell the children to return the sand to the sand tray and do not engage further with them. As a result, learning opportunities are missed. n Parents comment on the kind and friendly staff. However, parents do raise some concerns, especially regarding supervision of children when mixed-age ranges are in the same room, and the lack of information when accidents occur in the nursery. n Staff in the baby and pre-school rooms encourage children's communication skills well. They sing songs and provide narration as they interact with the children. Babies seek out familiar staff for cuddles and reassurance. Children in
