p.1

The provision is good

Children settle well into the childminder's calm and well organised home. The childminder succeeds in her ambition to create a relaxed, home-from-home environment. Her home is clean and there is plenty of space to play. Children confidently and independently find the toys and resources they want to explore. This helps children to follow their interests and develop their independence.

p.2

The provision is good

The childminder and her staff are gentle and affectionate. Children engage eagerly in activities and concentrate well. The childminder speaks to children at their level and explains clearly when she needs them to follow instructions. For example, when it is time to go out, the childminder gives children instructions to fetch their shoes and go to the front door. Children develop their physical confidence on daily outings in the local area, where they get to socialise with others in larger group activities.

p.2

The provision is good

The childminder knows the children in her care well and she is excited to share their achievements and her plans for their learning. Children respond to the childminder's praise and affection with big smiles and positive behaviour. The childminder's curriculum is stimulating and varied. She incorporates elements of literacy, mathematics and physical development into activities. All children make good progress and are well prepared for the next stage in their learning.

p.2

need to do better?

n Children develop a strong 'can-do' attitude in the childminder's care. The childminder has a strong sense of when to step back and observe and when to help children. This creates an enabling environment where children learn to do things for themselves. Children gain the skills they need and the confidence to try new things as active learners. n The childminder knows the children in her care extremely well. She is attuned with their interests and stages of development. This helps her to plan the next steps in their learning and make accurate assessments when it is time for their health and development review at age two or starting school. The curriculum is shaped by children's individual needs and the many opportunities available in the local area to extend their experiences. n The childminder listens to what children have to say and she chats easily with them. Children and the childminder talk about what they are doing and about

their surroundings. For example, on a visit to the farm, the childminder talks about the various animals and flowers they see. However, at times, the childminder does not use questions in ways that fully promote children's problem-solving and language skills. For example, she asks children to name animals or colours, which does not require them to consider their thinking skills.

need to do better?

11 June 2025 n Children eat freshly prepared food at the childminder's home. The childminder discusses nutrition with parents and ensures children eat a wide variety of food from a balanced menu. The childminder has experience of successfully managing children's allergies. In addition to gathering information about dietary requirements when children start, the childminder keeps an ongoing dialogue with parents. This allows her to adapt as children's requirements change, for example as allergies are investigated or when it is time to wean babies. This puts parents at ease and ensures children's welfare is prioritised. n The childminder has an outside area where children can play and learn. Children tend to the plants and enjoy picking strawberries for their snack. The childminder makes good use of playgrounds, parks and the farm in her local area to extend children's physical development. She ensures children travel

safely and she teaches them about road safety. Children have a good understanding of the daily routine. They quickly get their shoes and coats when it is time to go out, demonstrating a good understanding of the role they play in the routine. n The childminder cares for children in the early years age range and provides wraparound childcare for school-aged children. Many of the children in the childminder's care have attended for many years. Parents are highly complimentary of the childminder's care, practice and communication. They describe her as trustworthy, cheerful and caring. They also comment on the safe and happy environment their children enjoy when they are in the childminder's care.
