The provision is good

Children thrive in the welcoming childminder's home. They self-register when they arrive and quickly settle into their day. The childminder and her assistants have built a lovely rapport with all the children, helping them to feel secure. They know each child very well and respond quickly to their changing needs. They are always on hand to support them as children regularly come for a cuddle. The childminder has thoughtfully organised their home to support children to be independent and able to make choices about where to play. Children are very engaged in the wide range of resources on offer and move confidently around the room, helping themselves. Children behave very well. The childminder gently reminds children to be polite and role model please and thank you. Children know the routines of the day well and are active in their self-care skills, for example washing their hands before eating.

The provision is good

Children have a keen interest in dinosaurs, which the childminder facilitates through the purchasing of books and resources. The children excitedly build dinosaur nests and enjoy looking through the books. They pronounce the dinosaur names well. The childminder extends the conversation by asking children to compare the dinosaurs and describe their different features, which they do with ease. Across all ages, children make good progress in their learning and development.

n The childminder has clear plans for children's ongoing development. She and her assistants allocate time each week to discuss their observations of children and use tracking tools to decide where to focus next. This approach supports children to make very good progress in their learning. n The childminder has a very strong understanding of child development. She continues to access training to support her even further. All information is shared with her assistants to ensure they all remain up to date which enables them to plan an exciting and personalised curriculum. The childminder on the whole is very attentive to children's needs. However, on occasion, quieter children can be overlooked, which means they do not receive as much focused attention. n Communication and language are a key focus. Both the childminder and assistants understand the need to give children enough time to gather their thoughts before answering a question. They skilfully re-direct children's

questions to enable them to find their own answer and further develop their critical thinking. They are consistent with using single words with younger children and add new vocabulary and concepts to extend children's language as they develop, for example explaining what a fossil is. The childminder uses screening tools to identify if a child needs additional support and works very

9 June 2025 closely with parents to be consistent in their approach. n The childminder provides children with ample opportunities to practise their physical skills. She arranges stepping stones into a small obstacle course so children can practise their balancing. They enjoy stretching to reach the next step and laugh as they wobble. The childminder confidently guides children to strengthen their fingers and hands with, for example, a tray of rice with a range of receptors to fill and pour. For older children mathematics becomes a focus when numerals are added. As their play changes, the childminder responds quickly to children's interests and offers them scales as one pretends to make cakes with the rice. This further supports children's mathematical development. n Children are provided with a wide range of experiences outside of the childminder's home. The childminder regularly takes them to visit the zoo, farm

and parks, which is especially important in widening the experiences offered to all children. Parents comment about how thrilled they are with the care and education offered to their children. n The childminder is proactive and creates good links with a range of other educational settings when, for example, children attend more than one setting. She fosters good relationships so they can work together to share information to enable good transitions. She communicates well with other professionals to support her knowledge and implement shared plans for children with special educational needs and/or disabilities.
