p.1

The provision is inadequate

The childminder does not have a clear understanding of her role and responsibilities. There are several breaches of the safeguarding and welfare requirements that compromise children's safety. The childminder has failed to notify Ofsted of all assistants working alongside her. This means that children are cared for by adults, whose suitability to be an assistant has not been verified by Ofsted. The childminder allows her assistants to have unsupervised contact with children and includes her assistants in her staff-to-child ratios. This is not permitted until deemed suitable by Ofsted.

p.2

The provision is inadequate

The childminder does not adapt her curriculum to provide children with learning opportunities that are tailored to their individual needs. She does not provide children with a curriculum that is sequenced to help them to build on their prior skills and knowledge. As a result, children lose interest quickly. This does not promote a positive attitude to learning. The childminder does not ensure that her assistants understand their role in providing children with quality learning experiences. They often sit and supervise children rather than interacting with them and guiding their learning. Children show signs of boredom and are disengaged throughout the day. They are observed climbing onto furniture and throwing toys. This puts themselves and others are risk. The childminder does not ensure that she promotes good hand-hygiene. This does not support children's good health. Despite this, children appear settled in the childminder's home.

n The childminder has not ensured that Ofsted have been notified of all assistants working in her home. She allows her assistants to begin working without their suitability for their role being checked. The childminder allows her assistants to have unsupervised contact with children, including intimate care. This compromises children's safety and welfare. n The childminder exceeds her staff-to-child ratios. This is because she often counts her assistants in the ratios despite their suitability not being verified. The childminder does not demonstrate that she can meet the needs of all children. She spends time continually intervening in situations. For instance, older children repeatedly attempt to pick up babies. This puts children at risk of harm. n The childminder has not ensured that her assistants have the required knowledge and training they need to complete their roles safely and effectively. She has not completed induction training, or provided support and coaching to

help them to understand their roles and responsibilities. This impacts on their ability to interact with children. n The childminder she has not ensured that her assistants have been trained to understand her safeguarding policies and procedures. As such, her assistants are

13 June 2025 not aware of how to respond to safeguarding concerns. This puts children at risk of harm. n The childminder does not risk assess her environment to ensure that resources are safe and age-appropriate for children. For example, babies place small pieces of foam and the lids from pens in their mouths that they find on the floor. This poses a choking hazard and compromises children's safety. n The childminder does ensure that good hygiene procedures are followed. She does not encourage children to wash their hands before they eat or after using the potty. The childminder does not share her expectations of hand hygiene with her assistants. For instance, they do not wash their hands after wiping children's noses. This does not promote children's good health or help to reduce the spread of germs. n The childminder can talk about children's stage of development and what they need to learn next. However, she does not use this information to provide

opportunities to support children's learning. For example, she delivers group sessions that include children of all ages and does not differentiate between children's learning needs. Very young children are asked to recognise initial letter sounds, before they have secured the skills that lay foundations for this type of learning. Children lose interest quickly and become disengaged. This does not prepare children for their next stage in learning. n Parents provide positive feedback about the childminder. They state that she shares information about what the children's care routines are and sends photographs during the day. This helps to keep parents well informed of children's care. n There is a close bond between the childminder and children. Children seek her out for cuddles, when needed, and she adapts their routines when they are tired or hungry. This helps children to feel secure.
