Inspection of Hayley's Little Heroes Latchford St. James C Of E Primary School, Old Road, Warrington WA4 1AP

Overall effectiveness Inadequate

The quality of education Good Behaviour and attitudes Good Personal development Inadequate Leadership and management Inadequate Overall effectiveness at previous inspection Not applicable

p.1

The provision is inadequate

The provider has not ensured that all staff working in the setting have had the relevant suitability checks to work with children. Leaders have failed to follow their safer recruitment policies and procedures. Consequently, this does not help to keep children safe. Children form strong bonds with the kind and caring staff, who warmly greet them as they arrive. Staff provide children with a range of stimulating and exciting activities. For example, older children smile and show delight as they move their bodies to familiar songs during daily music and movement sessions. Staff model the different actions and children intently copy them. This helps children to develop their physical skills as they move in different ways and stretch their muscles.

p.2

The provision is inadequate

Staff take time to get to know children's individual needs well. They ensure all children, including those with special educational needs and/or disabilities, are included in the setting and provide ways for them to communicate effectively. For example, staff use communication mats with pictures of activities on, this allows all children to communicate their choices about what they would like to do. Additionally, staff use sign language as a tool to support children's communication. This helps children to feel included and supports their language development.

p.2

The provision is inadequate

Staff act as positive role models. They encourage children to use their manners as they say, please and thank you. Staff praise children as they show care and concern for each other. For example, children help their peers to put on a jacket and goggles as they play with construction toys. As a result, children have positive attitudes to learning and their emotional development is supported well.

p.2

need to do better?

n Leaders have not followed their safer recruitment policies and procedures. They have not carried out appropriate suitability checks for all staff working in the setting. This means that leaders cannot be assured of staff's suitability to care for children. As a result, this puts children's safety at risk. n Staff regularly assess what children know and can do. They use these assessments to plan activities tailored to develop children's interests and next steps in learning. For example, younger children explore coloured foam with their fingers. They learn to explore different textures and staff talk to them about how the foam feels soft. This helps to broaden children's experiences. n Parents say that they are happy with the care provided at this setting by the friendly and caring staff. Parents are informed of activities their children have taken part in via the online app and daily verbal feedback. This helps to support

12 June 2025 new vocabulary. Children are engrossed as staff read stories to them. They eagerly participate in singing familiar songs and rhymes. Staff use communication and language assessments to identify any gaps in children's learning. They make plans to close these gaps and, consequently, all children make rapid progress in their communication and language development. n Leaders are mindful of staff well-being. Staff say they feel supported by leaders and enjoy their roles. Leaders carry out supervisions for some staff and identify staff training needs. However, supervisions and a thorough programme of support have not been completed regularly enough. This means that the monitoring of staff practice does not consistently develop the quality of education. n Children are provided with a range of healthy and nutritious meals and snacks. For example, children enjoy natural yoghurt and fresh fruit for morning snack.

p.2

need to do better?

Staff ensure mealtimes are sociable occasions. Children happily serve themselves vegetable pasta and staff talk to them about what colour the vegetables are. This teaches children about healthy food and gives them an opportunity to practise their independence skills. n Leaders are focused on the continuous improvement of the quality of education. Leaders and staff work closely with the local authority early years team to develop the environment and planning of activities. The recent impact of this is evident through the well-resourced play rooms and variety of stimulating activities the children access. Staff are committed to their roles and children demonstrate high levels of engagement in their play and learning.
