p.1

The provision is good

This experienced and qualified childminder has a good knowledge and understanding of how to provide children with exciting learning opportunities. She is committed and enthusiastic, and wants the best outcomes for all children attending. The childminder plans her curriculum around the children's interests. She makes informed assessments through information gained from parents and her observations of children's learning. The childminder plans activities to build on what children already know and what they need to learn next. The childminder places a strong focus on children's personal, emotional and social development. As a result, children demonstrate they are confident in their abilities, feel safe and are very happy in her care. They show curiosity and are keen and eager to learn.

p.2

The provision is good

The childminder provides children with a home-from-home environment. The considered presentation of the good-quality resources in the dedicated playroom ensures children are able to self-select and learn the skills they need to be independent learners. The childminder has high expectations for the children and is a good role model. She is kind, attentive and nurturing. The childminder supports young children to understand their feelings, and provides the vocabulary they need to express their emotions. She is gentle in her approach when children struggle to self-regulate and is a calming influence. As a result, children's behaviour is good and they have formed close and trusting bonds with her.

n The childminder strives for excellence and there has a culture of reflection and evaluation. She understands the importance of building on her knowledge through research and training opportunities and the positive impact this has on outcomes for children. n Children delight in their time in the garden. They giggle as they run around and use water sprays. Children are fascinated with the bugs they find and share their excitement with their friends. They take great care to look after the bugs and put them in a safe place. n The childminder promotes the love of books with the children. A wide selection of quality books are available to them. Story bags with props are also popular. Children show sustained concentration as they listen to group stories. They predict what may happen next and the childminder encourages them to recall what they have already learned. n The childminder is skilful in introducing mathematical concepts. For example,

counting, numbers, shape and size are included in conversations that take place during activities. Positional language is used as they play a game of hide and seek using a ball. Children talk about it being 'under' or 'up high' as they give each other clues.

need to do better?

5 June 2025 n The quality of teaching is good. Children are offered a broad curriculum that covers all areas of learning. The childminder does plan according to children's individual interests and what they need to learn next and promote the skills they need to be independent learners. However, the curriculum is not consistently challenging and, on occasions, the most able children are not challenged to extend their knowledge to an even higher level. n Children learn the importance of staying safe and healthy through everyday routines. They enjoy nutritious and healthy snacks and know they need to wash away germs before eating. Even young children make good attempts to cut their fruit, closely supervised. They learn about composting and how to recycle packaging and make good attempts at using the correct bins to dispose of the waste. n The childminder has established positive working relationships with parents who

speak highly of all aspects of care offered. They comment on how 'warm and welcoming' the childminder is, and how their children are excited to attend. Parents say their children are safe and at ease in her care. They appreciate the planned outings and learning experiences their children receive. n Children learn skills they need to be successful learners and that prepare them for the transition to pre-school and school. They independently manage their own personal needs fully supported as appropriate. They ask lots of questions, and make good attempts putting shoes and coats on in preparation for outdoor play. Children are clearly delighted with the encouragement and praise they receive from the childminder for their efforts.
