This assurance inspection was carried out under the Care Standards Act 2000 to assess the effectiveness of the service, how it meets the core functions of the service as set out in legislation, and to consider how well it complies with The Children’s Homes (England) Regulations 2015 and the ‘Guide to the Children’s Homes Regulations, including the quality standards’. p.2

Leaders and managers have addressed concerns raised at the last inspection. Three of the four requirements have been met.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

Children have positive relationships with staff and each other. They are comfortable in their home environment. They can have open conversations with staff, who provide them with emotional support.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

Staff ensure that children’s health needs are met. They are proactive in promoting good personal hygiene and supporting children to attend health appointments. When children are reluctant to attend, staff are effective in encouraging them to do so.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

Children’s wishes and views are heard. Staff involve them in their care plans and hold weekly house meetings that are well attended, where children express their views on different aspects of life in the home. Staff respond to children’s requests where they can. For example, one child was provided with a mobile phone stand and a go-karting experience.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

Staff promote children’s independence and discussions to support their future. Plans to help children move towards adulthood are firmly in place.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

Children’s risk assessments are detailed, demonstrating an understanding of children’s vulnerabilities and how risks can be safely managed. Staff have meaningful discussions with children about their safety and well-being. The risks for the three children who live in the home have decreased since they moved in.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

Staff follow the missing-from-home procedures when children go missing. Staff fill out the home’s missing-from-home records, although the information recorded is very limited.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

Leaders and managers make appropriate referrals to the local authority designated officer and take swift action when there are concerns about staff practice.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

Staff feel well supported. They receive regular supervision and relevant training.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

Leaders have attempted to recruit a registered manager, but the home has not had one in post since May 2024. Leaders have minimised some of the impact by recruiting two deputy managers, and the responsible individual remains heavily involved in the management of the home.
