Overall effectiveness Inadequate

The quality of education Inadequate Behaviour and attitudes Inadequate Personal development Inadequate Leadership and management Inadequate Overall effectiveness at previous inspection Inadequate

p.1

The provision is inadequate

There is a newly appointed manager who started this week and has not yet had an opportunity to make a difference. Weaknesses continue to be present despite the same issues being raised at previous inspections. Not enough is being done to ensure that staff have the training and skills they need to deliver a curriculum that provides challenge and meets the children's needs. In addition to this, staff do not manage children's behaviour in a positive manner so that children understand what is expected of them.

p.2

The provision is inadequate

The provider does not ensure that staff have the skills they need to engage children in purposeful and meaningful learning. Children are often unengaged in play. For instance, staff make children take part in activities that are not inspiring or appropriate to their needs, and as a result, children do not express an interest in learning. Despite children showing little interest in the activities provided, staff continue to make them listen. Staff do not ensure that children have opportunities to make their own decisions in play. Babies and younger toddlers can explore and make their own choices. However, due to the poor deployment of staff, they do not receive the interactions they need as staff are too busy trying to comfort other children and cannot give them the attention that they need. Older toddlers and pre-school children do not have opportunities to lead their own play. Due to these significant weaknesses, children do not make good progress and are not well

need to do better?

n Leaders do not provide staff with the support and training they need to understand the subject knowledge they need to teach, and to be able to teach children in a way that is engaging, interesting and challenging. For example, they use flash cards and make children repeat the names of shapes and numbers, which does not engage or interest the children. In addition to this, staff confuse two- and three-dimensional shapes by teaching the children that a pyramid is a triangle and a cube is a square. Staff then encourage children to count the faces of the cube and tell them that a square has six sides. n The provider does not ensure that staff manage children's behaviour in a positive way to help children to learn about expectations, to be kind, to share and to be respectful of each other. Staff shout and clap their hands loudly to make sure children are listening, and staff remove toys from children's hands

without warning as children are trying to play when staff want their attention. As a result, children copy this behaviour as they snatch toys from each other and shout to get attention. n Although the provider meets the requirements regarding the ratio of adults working with children, they do not ensure that staff are deployed well to meet

need to do better?

24 April 2025 the needs of all children. Staff working with the babies and youngest toddlers struggle to meet their care and learning needs, especially when babies need comforting and rely on being carried. This means the other children do not receive the support and interactions that they need to promote their learning and development. However, staff are very kind and caring as they try to make sure that children feel safe and settled. Babies clearly have good relationships with the adults caring for them. n Leaders do not ensure that staff provide enough support or encouragement to help children to develop their communication and language skills. Staff often sit with children quietly or just use flash cards to ask children to name what is in the picture, and this requires a one-word answer. They do not model language or encourage children to share their views and ideas or to have a two-way flow of conversation with them or their peers. Although the curriculum suggests that

staff use core books with children, staff do not make use of books to introduce more language to children's vocabulary. n Staff do not ensure that older children can direct their play and follow their own ideas. This means that these children are not able to explore and express themselves, following their own interests. n Children know the routines well and understand good hygiene practices. They confidently line up to wash their hands before meals and demonstrate independence at managing some tasks such as pouring themselves drinks, feeding themselves and putting their coats and shoes on to go outside to play.
