p.1
The provision is inadequate
Children's safety is not fully assured. Although the childminder has completed safeguarding training, she does not have a secure knowledge and understanding of her role and responsibilities to effectively safeguard children.
p.2
The provision is inadequate
Despite this, the childminder provides a calm and nurturing environment. The childminder has formed strong bonds with children. She gives them plenty of praise and encouragement, which promotes their self-esteem effectively. Children enjoy cuddles with the childminder during the day. The childminder is an excellent role model and gives children gentle reminders to use good manners, such as when they ask for food. This prompts children to be polite and say please and thank you.
p.2
The provision is inadequate
Children benefit from going out into the local community. For example, they visit allotments to learn how plants grow and where food comes from. Children learn to care for and nurture animals as they help to feed the chickens. These experiences help children to develop their understanding of the world around them. The childminder plans daily outings to parks and woodland areas, where children can run, climb and jump, improving their physical skills while enjoying fresh air.

need to do better?
n Although the childminder is aware of the potential signs and symptoms of abuse, she is unclear about how to report these concerns to ensure children are safeguarded. Furthermore, the childminder does not understand how to respond to any allegations made against herself or other adults in an appropriate way. This compromises the safety and well-being of children. n The childminder knows children well. She talks clearly about children's abilities and achievements. The childminder monitors children's learning. For example, she completes regular assessments to identify clear next steps for children's learning. This helps them to make good progress in their development. n The childminder provides children with a mix of adult-led and child-led activities. She plans adult-led activities effectively to support children's learning and development. For example, she encourages children to further develop their

vocabulary. As a result, children are excited by learning as they engage in activities set up to capture their attention. However, during child-led activities, the childminder does not plan for children's learning as well. On these occasions, some children lose interest and wander around the room. n The childminder is passionate about building positive relationships with parents. When children first join the setting, the childminder adheres closely to parental preferences, such as sleeping and routines. Communication is effective. The childminder keeps parents well informed about their children's experiences during the day through various communication methods. Parents are happy with

1 May 2025 the care the childminder provides. n The childminder supports children in their social development. She takes children out into the local community to provide opportunities for them to mix with others. During these times, children learn skills such as taking turns and cooperating in tasks. n The childminder ensures books are easily accessible for children throughout the day. Children explore and look at books independently, as well as listening to the childminder read. The childminder shares familiar stories. Children fully engage during story time, lifting flaps and saying animal names and sounds. This fosters a love for books and helps develop early literacy skills. n Children are supported to develop their imagination well. Younger children explore the different items in the role-play area. For example, they engage in activities such as making the childminder a cup of tea. Children repeat their

actions to help them make sense of their play and practise their skills as they pour the teapot over the cup. n Children learn the importance of hygiene by cleaning their hands before eating. The childminder ensures that children have healthy snacks and drink fresh water throughout the day. She has conversations with children that promote an understanding of healthy eating and oral health. This helps children to develop healthy habits for the future.
