p.1

The provision is good

The childminder provides a safe and welcoming home-from-home for children. She adopts a calm and gentle approach, providing children with reassuring cuddles and comforting words when needed. The childminder meets children's care needs with gentleness and respect. For example, she speaks kindly and explains what she is doing during care routines, such as nappy changes. This helps children to build warm and trusting bonds. Children feel happy and confident in the childminder's home, which enables them to relax and focus on their play and learning.

p.2

The childminder offers a broad and ambitious curriculum, which promotes children's progress well. She provides resources that children like playing with and engages them through her fun and enthusiastic interactions. This captures children's interests and nurtures their positive attitudes towards learning. The childminder has high expectations for children. She is clear about boundaries and provides gentle reminders to help children to follow routines and develop social skills. Children enjoy the childminder's praise. They behave well and become confident about what they can do. For instance, toddlers are keen to manage their own personal care. They demonstrate a 'can-do' approach as they master skills such as washing their hands and feeding themselves.

n The qualified childminder has a professional and enthusiastic approach to her role. She gathers parents' views and reflects on children's experiences to identify where she can further enhance her provision. For instance, the childminder has identified that some children are unused to playing within a larger group. Therefore, she takes them on regular visits to parks, playgroups and a soft-play centre to help build their confidence and social skills. n The childminder observes children's learning and makes accurate assessments about what they know and can do. She plans for their next steps in learning and, overall, delivers her curriculum well. However, on occasion, the childminder introduces ideas that are too advanced or tries to teach children too many things at once. Therefore, her teaching is not always focused precisely on what children need to learn next. n There is strong support for children's developing speaking and listening skills.

p.2

The childminder explores stories and songs with children to help extend their use of language. She is attentive to toddlers' early attempts at communication, providing clear words and simple phrases that they can understand and copy. This helps all children, including those who speak English as an additional language, to become confident communicators. n The childminder values the cultural backgrounds of the children and families that attend.
