p.1
This monitoring visit
Children are supported by staff who know them well and respond to their individual needs. For children whose first language is not English, key information relating to their support, such as the children’s guide, is translated into other languages. This helps children understand what is expected of them and what they can expect when living in this service. Although children chose not to talk to the inspectors, interactions between children and staff were positive, with good levels of emotional support being offered to one child following a distressing incident.
p.1
This monitoring visit
Children are supported well to develop life skills that help them on their journey to independence. The effectiveness of this support is evident in children’s increased confidence and readiness for adult life.
p.1
This monitoring visit
Children benefit from living in homely and well-maintained accommodation. Their bedrooms provide a good space where their privacy and dignity are respected by Inspection report for supported accommodation provider - monitoring visit: Starlybek Care Limited 2 staff. Each week, children are encouraged to come together and be involved in preparing a group meal, promoting a sense of community and belonging.
p.1
This monitoring visit
Since registration, there have been several incidents, including safeguarding concerns. These incidents are well documented, and information was shared with other agencies and professionals, such as children’s social workers, in a timely manner. However, leaders and managers have failed to keep Ofsted informed when significant incidents involving children have occurred. This prevents Ofsted as the regulator from having effective oversight of the service and assessing the risks to children.
p.2
This monitoring visit
Safer recruitment practices are in place. However, some information regarding overseas checks and confirmation of employees’ addresses has not been sufficiently documented. Leaders and managers had not picked up on this shortfall. This potentially compromises the effectiveness of the recruitment process and may not keep children safe.
p.2
This monitoring visit
The new manager is in the process of reviewing systems for maintaining management oversight. This is ongoing and time will be needed to embed these processes. However, this is an early indicator that the manager is focused on improvement. Inspection report for supported accommodation provider - monitoring visit: Starlybek Care Limited 3
