p.1

The provision is outstanding

Children strive at this childminding provision. The childminder's warmth and genuine love for the children in her care is demonstrated in the deep attachments children make with her. Children are very well settled and display high levels of emotional security. They are highly independent in their self-care routines and show confidence when moving from one activity to another. The childminder has a strong intent of what she wants children to learn. There is a key focus on personal, social and emotional development and children's communication and language.

p.2

The provision is outstanding

The childminder finds out about children's experiences and cleverly links these to their community and the environment to provide them with a greater understanding of the world in which they live. For instance, they visit a variety of places, such as local nature attractions, castles and the local fire station. They also mix with other childminders for children to socialise with others. This helps to build children's knowledge of their community. The childminder understands the importance of children developing physical skills. Children have daily access to exercise and fresh air. Younger children develop gross-motor skills as they practise climbing, balancing and riding scooters, while older children practise their dexterity using one-handed tools such as scissors.

p.2

The provision is outstanding

Children show high levels of empathy for each other. They are taught to be thoughtful and kind and to appreciate their friends. The childminder models this positive and kind-hearted approach very well.

need to do better?

n The childminder has high aspirations for all children. She works hard to improve her own professional skills to deliver an ambitious and individually targeted curriculum. She has a clear process of assessing what children know already and need to know next. The childminder diligently monitors children's learning to ensure that any gaps in their development are swiftly addressed. Children make exceptional progress from their starting points. n The childminder's interactions with the children are of the highest quality. She asks children probing questions to support their critical thinking and further their learning. Children have sufficient time to think and respond. Their focus, attention and engagement during play and activities is excellent. Children show very positive attitudes to learning for their age. They persevere with tasks and show delight when they succeed. n Children's communication skills are impressive. The childminder extends

children's language through conversations, singing, careful questioning and reading books. She provides a narrative to their play, models language and introduces children to new words at every opportunity. For example, when

This carefully planned repetition exposes children to a range of new vocabulary and helps the youngest children to learn new words in a range of contexts. Children are expressive and confident speakers. n The childminder skilfully develops children's mathematical knowledge. Children count with confidence and learn about complex sums, such as adding numbers together to find the total. She seizes the moment to build on their vocabulary and introduces the concept of size and weight. For example, children enjoy experimenting with scales as they measure using different weights and use words, such as 'lighter' and 'heavier'. n Parent partnerships are incredibly strong. Parents overwhelmingly praise the attentive and caring approach of the childminder. They comment that they are extremely happy with the progress their children make. The childminder

regularly communicates with children's parents and encourages them to share their views and opinions about her service. The childminder is confident in signposting parents for any additional support they may need. She regularly shares resources and information with them to develop their knowledge, such as toilet training. This provides parents with confidence and new skills to support children's development at home. n The childminder works closely with other settings and the local school to support children's transitions. Children learn the skills they need to be ready for nursery and school. The childminder ensures that children gain the self-care skills they need. For example, they learn to use the toilet by themselves and wash their hands. Children develop confidence as they prepare and cut their fruit for snack time. The childminder provides highly effective support to children. As a result, they are well prepared for their next stage of education.
