p.1

The provision requires improvement

The staff team creates a warm, friendly and home-from-home environment for children and their families. Children happily attend nursery, and the staff are friendly and caring. Babies and older children independently explore the rooms. This shows that children are happy, relaxed and feel safe and secure. There are weaknesses in the quality of education. Although staff interact pleasantly with children and talk to them as they play, the quality of teaching is not always consistent. The provider's planning of the activities is not always carefully sequenced to build on what children already know and can do. This means that activities do not always support the intended learning outcomes and limits children's progress. The staff team quickly identify children with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND). They have plans in place to support children with SEND. However, the staff team do not always tailor their approach to help children

p.2

The provision requires improvement

Generally, children behave well. They listen to and follow instructions from the staff team. However, there are times when children show that they are still learning to understand behaviour expectations. Although the staff react quickly to this, they do not always help children to understand their behaviour. For example, when children climb up on tables or throw toys, staff say 'no thank you'.

need to do better?

n The provider and staff team plan the curriculum based on children's interests and topics. However, they do not have clear intent about what they want individual children to learn. While children enjoy the activities, these are not always appropriate learning. Therefore, children are not consistently benefiting from teaching that helps them make good progress. n The provider works to identify children with SEND. They complete next steps in children's learning and share these with the parents. The staff team are kind and caring and they reassure children with cuddles throughout the day. However, the staff team do not consistently provide the support that children with SEND need to make the best progress. They let them, at times, remain at the same activity. Consequently, children appear bored. They sit on the floor or wander around the room without purpose. n Staff support children's understanding of good health and hygiene. Children are

learning how to keep their bodies healthy through food and exercise. They understand the importance of washing their hands and staff support children to brush their teeth to fun songs. n Staff encourage and support children to be independent. Older children persevere well, managing their shoes and getting their bags ready. Babies attempt to feed themselves with staff close by to help. This helps promote

30 April 2025 children's confidence. n Children have fun outside, playing boisterous physical games with staff and making use of the climbing and building equipment. Staff interact and play with children at their level. n The staff team understand that children need to develop good communication and language skills. Staff spontaneously lead songs and rhymes throughout the day. This helps to develop children's communication skills. They introduce unfamiliar words in context to ensure children hear a wide vocabulary. Staff encourage parents to use the nursery's lending library to share books at home. This supports children's early literacy skills. n Staff provide different opportunities to promote children's hand-eye coordination and future writing skills. For example, babies play with different fixtures on the wall activity board, opening and closing latches. Older children use tweezers to pick up coloured play frogs.

p.2

need to do better?

n Staff are good role models. They encourage children to use their manners and share resources. Staff recognise and praise good behaviour. However, they do not consistently help children to understand the consequences of some of their actions and why they are being asked to stop. For example, when children throw an object, they are told 'no thank you' and not provided with an explanation. Therefore, children do not thoroughly understand the full expectations of their behaviour. n Partnership with parents and families is positive. They feel involved and well- informed about their children's learning and progress. Parents receive regular communication about their children's learning and development. Parents say they feel able to approach staff should they have any concerns or need support. They talk about how happy children are to attend, and how quickly they settle. Parents describe the nursery as being like 'a home from home'.

p.3

n The management team works alongside staff to care for the children. Staff comment that they feel supported and are part of a team. Staff have opportunities for training, mentoring and supervision.
