p.1

The provision is good

Children are happy here and form warm and nurturing relationships with the childminder. The childminder is highly attuned to children's individual needs and supports them with sensitivity and patience. She plans an appropriate curriculum for all children, offering stimulating activities based on their needs and interests, which helps children make good progress in their learning and development. The environment is clean and organised, with children understanding and following routines and boundaries. Politeness is encouraged throughout the day, so children learn to say please and thank you. They respond positively to instructions, taking turns in their play and tidying away resources after they have finished using them. This contributes to children respecting their environment and learning social skills.

p.2

The provision is good

The childminder places great emphasis on supporting children's communication and language, so stories, songs and rhymes are a core part of children's day. Children choose books and sit together as the childminder skilfully engages them, using props to bring stories to life for them. The childminder helps children to recall past experiences and make links in their learning. Familiar rhymes and songs support children to recognise sounds in words, learn new vocabulary, and develop their listening and attention skills.

need to do better?

n The childminder uses information collected from parents to assess children's needs effectively. She requests support from external agencies in a timely manner. This means that children's individual needs are consistently supported. n The childminder helps children to do things for themselves. They use tissues when they sneeze and cover their mouth when they cough. With praise and encouragement, children use the toilet independently and put their shoes and coats on as they get ready to go out. This contributes to children developing good hygiene and self-care habits. n Children are busy, active and engaged in an environment where they have access to a large variety of interesting and stimulating resources. A large play area in the garden provides opportunities for children to develop their physical skills. They learn to jump in and out of hoops, refine their balancing skills and learn how to pedal a bicycle. With close supervision and support, children learn

how to handle and use scissors with confidence. This helps to develop their hand-eye coordination and strengthen their hand muscles. n The childminder plans and offers children inspiring and stimulating outdoor learning opportunities. Recent outings involved children going to a farm and taking part in a book trail. They fed the animals and learned more about what it takes to look after them. The childminder supports children to be aware of their surroundings, learning about road safety and how to keep themselves safe when

need to do better?

10 April 2025 they are out and about. n The childminder promotes a sense of belonging for children and families. She offers activities and resources so children can learn more about the rich and diverse backgrounds that make up their community. She works closely with parents to ensure that their cultural and religious events are celebrated and valued. n Learning is fun and interesting for children. They chase bubbles excitedly and giggle as they feel them burst on their skin. The childminder introduces new words as she helps children to think about the 'direction' the wind is blowing the bubbles. However, she does not consistently extend children's thinking skills so that they gain the maximum learning from each activity. n Parent feedback shows they highly value the service the childminder offers. They share that their children are safe here and flourish with the childminder. They value the warm and caring environment the childminder provides and appreciate

the time and effort she puts into planning activities. This helps to provide consistent support for children's overall development. n The childminder keeps up to date with developments in the early years by accessing training and networking with other childminders in the community. She is passionate about her practice and works hard to ensure that the children she looks after are happy, healthy and safe in her care.
