p.1

The provision is good

Children show that they are settled and happy in the childminder's care. They confidently explore the childminder's garden and choose their activity from the many on offer. The childminder has carefully planned the provision of activities with children's interests and abilities in mind. She knows what she wants children to learn through their play, and she skilfully interacts with them to support their continual learning and development. Children respond positively to the childminder's invitation to play and show high levels of involvement in what they are doing. They smile as they successfully find the correct place for their puzzle piece, showing pride in their achievement. The childminder offers children praise and encouragement through all that they do. This motivates the children to keep trying and boosts their self-esteem and sense of accomplishment.

p.2

The provision is good

Children approach physical challenge with increasing agility. They carefully step across a number of stepping stones until they reach a platform at the end of their trail. The childminder reminds children to bend both knees before they jump, which helps them to safely land themselves on the ground. Children practise using their developing balancing skills as they repeat the activity, which helps them to become more confident and able.

need to do better?

n The childminder has made vast improvements since her last inspection. She has completed a range of relevant training courses and has engaged well with the support available to her. The childminder now has a secure understanding of what children need to learn, and how they will achieve their development goals. Additionally, she demonstrates a secure knowledge of how to safeguard children. The childminder has addressed all the weaknesses that were identified when Ofsted last inspected the setting. n The childminder is skilled at supporting children with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND). She works proactively with external support agencies to make sure children with SEND get the help that they need to progress. The childminder promotes all children's development by setting appropriate learning targets. She tailors her support to make sure each child achieves what they are capable of.

p.2

need to do better?

n The childminder has carefully considered what she wants children to learn and has devised an age-appropriate curriculum that prepares children for starting school. There are many examples of how she implements this well, which is having a positive impact on children's learning and development. However, there are some inconsistencies, specifically in relation to aspects of children's personal development. For instance, the childminder plans for children to independently look after their own care needs, but she often completes care tasks for children

need to do better?

8 April 2025 that they could do for themselves. n The childminder recognises how important it is for all children to be confident and able communicators, through using verbal and sign dialogue. She promotes this development effectively, using a range of strategies. For example, children learn a small number of songs well, so that new language becomes embedded in their memories. However, sometimes the childminder asks children questions in quick succession, and encourages them to repeat words before they have had time to fully process the information and respond. This can occasionally be overwhelming for children. n The childminder takes children on outings to teach them the skills and knowledge that they will need to confidently navigate themselves in the wider world. For example, she takes children to eat at local cafes. Here, the childminder explains to the children that they choose their food from a menu,

order what they would like to eat and then wait for it to arrive at their table. These are valuable learning experiences that children will recall and use as they grow older to build their confidence in social situations. n The childminder is effective at promoting children's good behaviour. She encourages children to say or sign please and thank you. The childminder encourages children to work as part of a team to complete tasks, such as matching two parts of a toy animal together. Children practise their turn-taking and sharing skills. The childminder praises children's kind actions and words, which motivates them to act in a similar way again.
