Information about this inspection

 the care of children  the safety of children  the effectiveness of leaders and managers. The inspector has looked closely at the experiences and progress of children, using the social care common inspection framework. This assurance inspection was carried out under the Care Standards Act 2000 to assess the effectiveness of the service, how it meets the core functions of the service as set out in legislation, and to consider how well it complies with The Children’s Homes (England) Regulations 2015 and the ‘Guide to the Children’s Homes Regulations, including the quality standards’. p.1

Findings from the inspection

We did not identify any serious or widespread concerns in relation to the care or protection of children at this assurance inspection.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

The registered manager has taken action to address the shortfalls raised at the full inspection. All the requirements given at the full inspection have now been met.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

One child has moved into the home since the full inspection. The child had previously lived in the home before a planned transition to the care of their family. When this family placement broke down, a referral was accepted for the child to move back into the home. The registered manager completed a detailed assessment to review any new areas of risk to ensure that staff remained in a position to meet the child’s individual needs. The registered manager acknowledges that the child’s reintegration to the home was swift; however, this was due to the established relationships between the child and staff team.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

Children’s individual identities are valued, and staff understand each child’s background and culture, ensuring that their needs are met in a respectful and inclusive way. For one child, staff have sourced a hairdresser and advice about skincare to ensure that specific needs regarding the child’s individual ethnicity are supported effectively. One staff member has taken the responsibility for further promoting equality and diversity in the home. Educational opportunities are provided to help children learn about different cultures, broadening their understanding of diversity. Cultural celebrations, activities and resources are promoted by staff, which encourages children’s respect of others and security in their sense of self.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

Behaviour management strategies are child focused and adapted to the individual needs of each child. Staff use positive and proactive approaches to support children in understanding and managing their emotions, helping to reduce incidents of challenging behaviour. Clear boundaries and consistent responses create a stable and supportive environment. The home maintains appropriate staff ratios, ensuring that children receive the supervision and guidance they need. As a result, staff can implement behaviour management strategies effectively, and children benefit from a structured and nurturing approach.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

Consequences for behaviour are restorative, helping children to understand the impact of their actions and learn from their experiences. Key-work sessions are used effectively to support this process, providing children with opportunities to reflect and develop more positive responses. The effectiveness of consequences is regularly reviewed by the registered manager to ensure that they remain appropriate and meaningful. Incentives for children are creative and visual, to support each child’s individual needs. Staff encourage children’s positive engagement and celebrate their progress. As a result, children experience a fair and supportive approach to behaviour management that promotes children’s development in taking responsibility for their actions. Assurance inspection report for children’s home: 2720360 3 Staff recordings are child centred and focused on children’s experiences, progress and well-being. Children’s views are well documented, which ensures their voices
