p.1

The provision is inadequate

Breaches in the safeguarding and welfare requirements of the early years foundation stage have a negative impact on children's learning, safety and well- being. The childminder does not fulfil her role effectively enough to ensure that children are kept safe at all times. She does not make sure that effective staff deployment is in place. On occasion, this leads to children being left unsupervised with unvetted adults. In addition, the childminder does not ensure that her staff have a suitable understanding of safeguarding. These failures have led to a further decline in the overall quality of the provision since the last inspection.

p.2

The provision is inadequate

Children are settled in the childminder's home. However, the childminder has a poor understanding of how to support children in their learning. She does not know what she wants children to learn or how to plan effectively for their individual needs. Consequently, the childminder does not provide children with enough opportunities to extend their learning or be stimulated. She does not provide children with the support and interactions they need to extend their learning and development.

p.2

The provision is inadequate

The childminder does not support children's challenging behaviour effectively. She does not help children to understand rules and expectations. For example, when children snatch toys from one another, she says 'to share', without further explanation or modelling. Consequently, children's unwanted behaviour often goes unchallenged, and children do not learn how to behave appropriately and play together.

p.2

need to do better?

n The childminder and her staff attend safeguarding training. They have a suitable knowledge of some aspects of safeguarding, including how to identify signs of abuse. However, the childminder does not ensure that her staff know and follow her procedure to keep children safe in the presence of visitors. In addition, the childminder does not help children to use space and equipment safely. This compromises children's safety. n The childminder does not handle children in a safe and suitable manner. For example, when children go up or down the steps, she often holds them by their wrists or their upper arms. This does not ensure that children are guided or supported in a suitable way. At times, the childminder does not show children respect. For example, children receive no warning that they are going to be lifted from behind. n The childminder does not model to her staff how to deliver a good quality of

education. As a result, teaching is weak, and children's learning is incidental. Supervision arrangements are not effective. This means that although the

p.2

need to do better?

6 March 2025 childminder is able to identify some weaknesses, she does not focus enough on rapid improvement of teaching practice. This negatively impacts on the progress children make in their learning. n The childminder is friendly and welcoming towards children but does not fully carry out the role as their key person. The childminder does not ensure that children's needs are met. For example, when she identifies that children are tired, she does not provide them with the rest they need. This impacts negatively on children's emotional well-being, their attitudes towards others and their learning. n The childminder's hygiene practices do not meet the personal needs of children or protect their health. For example, she does not ensure that children wash their hands after they touch dirty objects outside. The childminder does not ensure that children wear suitable clothing while outside. This does not promote

children's good health. n The childminder does not support children's behaviour appropriately. For example, her expectations are not always age-appropriate. The childminder does not fully consider children's emotional well-being and the underlining causes of different unwanted behaviours. As a result, she does not help children to regulate their behaviour. n The childminder has failed to implement a well-designed curriculum that takes into account children's individual needs. The learning intentions for children are not clear. The childminder sings with children and reads them stories. Children also enjoy their time outside and explore nature with enthusiasm. However, the childminder does not purposefully plan these activities and does not ensure that all children are fully engaged. The curriculum is not ambitious and challenging for children. This means that children do not make good progress in their overall

development. n Parents appreciate the childminder speaking in Portuguese with children, when appropriate.
