The provision requires improvement
The warm and welcoming staff team respond well to children, offering care and attention to support their emotional well-being. This helps children to feel happy and settled. Staff skilfully support and engage most children in purposeful play and learning experiences, which helps them to develop a core range of skills. However, there are inconsistencies with the learning opportunities provided to children with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND). While staff are aware of the targeted learning plans for these children, they do not implement these effectively. There are times when SEND children enjoy playing but receive very little quality support and interaction from staff. This reduces the effectiveness of the learning offered to children.
p.2
The provision requires improvement
Staff read core stories to children, as well as planning interesting activities associated with the story. They encourage children to recall words and phrases from the stories as they play, which helps to support their growing vocabulary. Staff plan carpet time group activities to encourage children's listening and attention skills. Staff incorporate learning on the Muslim faith and Islamic values well, as part of routine experiences. While the Muslim faith is the core belief promoted daily, staff also introduce children to other cultural beliefs and religions as part of their curriculum. This helps children to learn to value and respect the uniqueness of others.

need to do better?
n Targeted support plans for SEND children are in place and understood by staff. However, these plans are not always successfully implemented during focused learning time. During free play, SEND children are often left to play with minimal quality interactions offered by staff. While they remain happy in their play, they are not being effectively supported to benefit from purposeful learning experiences. n In contrast to this, staff skilfully intervene and extend other children's free play experiences. During outside play, impromptu games created and encouraged by staff create exiting opportunities, where children are encouraged to share, take turns and develop their physical skills. This results in these children developing positive attitudes to learning as their curiosity and enjoyment are provoked through staff's positive engagement. n Managers have identified a clear range of skills for children to develop over time.

need to do better?
Staff work with parents to assess children's progress from their individual starting points. Regular exchanges of information keep parents informed of their children's progress and their next steps for learning. n Staff provide lots of narration as children play, encouraging their communication skills. However, sometimes staff become a little too enthusiastic in their

19 March 2025 questioning of children. During group activities, staff sometimes talk over each other as they ask questions. At other times, staff ask questions in quick succession, without giving children enough time to think and respond. n Children are encouraged to learn to respect rules and boundaries. Regular reminders by staff about 'kind hands', encourage children's good behaviour and cooperative play. Staff remind children about using their listening ears, which encourages them to focus and listen when needed. n Children are supported to follow clear routines. For example, staff provide children with a warning before there is a change in the routine. They use sand timers to enable children to visualise and learn about the concept of time. When staff confirm the time has run out, children understand and are ready to help tidy up. n Staff make good use of a visual timetable. They regularly discuss what has

already taken place and check in with children and question them about what is coming next. For example, staff point to the image of carpet time and confirm this has now finished and as they point to the next image, they ask questions about what comes next. Children confidently answer that it is time to wash their hands before snack. They respond well as expectations are shared with them. n Children are closely supervised by staff, which helps to keep them safe from potential harm. Staff encourage children to play safely. For example, staff remind children of the rules to sit down before going down the slide. Children understand that they should walk sensibly and not run, when moving between the indoor and outdoor environments. Staff talk to children about keeping safe when using technology and they share informative information about online safety with parents. n Procedures for the performance management and support of staff are in place.

However, managers are not effectively using these to identify weaker practice. This means that training and support is not always targeted to help staff improve the quality of care and learning for all children, including those with SEND.
