Information about this inspection
the care of children the safety of children the effectiveness of leaders and managers. The inspector looked closely at the experiences and progress of children, using the social care common inspection framework. This assurance inspection was carried out under the Care Standards Act 2000 to assess the effectiveness of the service, how it meets the core functions of the service as set out in legislation, and to consider how well it complies with The Children’s Homes (England) Regulations 2015 and the ‘Guide to the Children’s Homes Regulations, including the quality standards’. Assurance inspection report for children’s home: SC473404 2
p.1
Findings from the inspection
We did not identify any serious or widespread concerns in relation to the care or protection of children at this assurance inspection.
p.2
Findings from the inspection
Staff and children have experienced a few settled months since the last full inspection. All children are in full-time education, and staff help them to engage in and enjoy their experiences at school.
p.2
Findings from the inspection
The relationships between children and staff have improved. This is because new staff had time to form relationships with children. Staff have received training that has improved their understanding of therapy and are now more consistent in their approaches when supporting children with their behaviours. They talk to children when an incident occurs, exploring children’s feelings and well-being. This has helped children to trust staff and seek guidance when they need it.
p.2
Findings from the inspection
Staff take children’s views and feelings into consideration. They ensure that children’s wishes are supported when it is safe to do so. Staff also help children understand why their wishes cannot always be met. Staff are transparent with children and educate them about risks.
p.2
Findings from the inspection
When concerns about children’s welfare arise, the registered manager ensures that other professionals are informed. The registered manager contacts the local designated safeguarding officers and makes referrals without unnecessary delay. The investigations into concerns are thorough, and effective actions are taken to reduce the risk of harm to children. Notifications are submitted to Ofsted promptly.
p.2
Findings from the inspection
Recruitment checks have been carried out for new staff. However, there is a lack of scrutiny regarding the gaps in applicants’ employment histories, as well as determining when overseas checks are required. Furthermore, it is not possible to verify that all references have been provided by a professional organisation. Therefore, the previous requirement relating to recruitment processes has not yet been met.
p.2
Findings from the inspection
The registered manager has ensured that all staff have received the organisation's mandatory training. Staff meetings are regular and provide another opportunity for learning and promoting safeguarding practices. Reflective work and learning from incidents are at the heart of the registered manager’s practice. The registered manager’s oversight is robust and effective.
