p.1

The provision is good

Children show they feel safe and secure with the kind and caring childminder. They are friendly to one another and learn how to behave well. The childminder encourages polite behaviour. She asks for 'happy helpers' to join her in tidying up and children eagerly volunteer. She offers gentle, age-appropriate explanations that help children learn right and wrong. This fosters a respectful and positive environment.

p.2

The provision is good

The childminder plans an ambitious curriculum that helps prepare children for the next stage of learning. Children delight in exploring the environment, using a magnifying glass to look for insects. The childminder supports children's language skills. She hides pictures of fruit in the garden which provide children with the opportunity to name each item they find. This helps children learn new vocabulary. When they build a rocket ship with blocks, she sings a song about a rocket, and the children eagerly join in. This helps children to develop their communication.

p.2

The provision is good

The childminder builds on children's interests to enrich their learning experiences. For example, when they show curiosity about water, she provides bowls and jugs, allowing them to explore, experiment, and develop problem-solving skills through play. This allows children to make connections between their learning and the world around them.

need to do better?

n The childminder helps children build their attention spans by responding to their needs. For example, when reading stories, the childminder recognises when children lose interest and adapts by following their lead. During singing time, the childminder uses props and allows children to choose songs from a bag, ensuring the activity remains engaging and that the learning is enjoyable. n Children's voices are valued. For example, the childminder allows children to choose when they want to have snack. However, some activities offer fewer choices. For instance, when making masks, the childminder provides a preselected, narrow range of colours rather than allowing children to explore their own artistic ideas. This limits children's ability to experiment and freely express their creativity. n The childminder helps children manage their feelings through gentle guidance. For example, during songs like Five Little Ducks, she acts out sadness to help

children understand and express emotions. If a child hurts themselves, she provides warmth, reassurance, and comfort, acknowledging their pain. By encouraging children to reflect on their feelings, she helps them recognise their emotions and learn effective ways to manage them. n The childminder effectively supports children with special educational needs

21 March 2025 and/or disabilities. She closely monitors their development and shares this information with parents to ensure they are fully informed of their children's progress. The childminder encourages reading at home by providing books. She works with parents to ensure a collaborative approach. n The childminder supports children's mathematical skills well. For example, during an interactive retelling of 'Handa's Surprise', she encourages children to quickly identify quantities by asking them to recognise the changing number of fruits. She includes songs with counting to help children learn number sequences. These activities give children opportunities to develop their mathematical abilities. n The childminder prepares children for the next stage of learning by promoting independence while offering guidance and support. For example, during snack time, the childminder teaches children how to handle knives safely. Children cut

and peel a variety of fruits and vegetables, such as passion fruits and avocado. This approach helps build their confidence and prepares them for greater independence in future tasks. n The childminder promotes the development of fine motor skills. For example, children practice pouring as they fill cups with lentils, enhancing fine motor control. They enjoy persevering with puzzles. These activities help children refine hand movements and improve coordination and precision, which is needed for future writing. n Children play with small world figures representing different abilities. Conversations about cultural backgrounds arise naturally, such as when a child mentions that guavas are found in Africa, leading to discussions about climate and how different plants grow. This helps children develop an understanding of the world around them.
