p.1
Findings from the inspection
We did not identify any serious or widespread concerns in relation to the care or protection of children at this assurance inspection.
p.2
Findings from the inspection
Two children have left the home since the last inspection. One child is currently living in the home. When children are moving into the home or moving on from the home, the staff team manages this sensitively. There is effective planning in place between the home and the child’s placing authority to ensure that the child is kept up to date about the plans, that they can visit their new home to meet the adults who will be caring for them and that they can move on with a positive ending.
p.2
Findings from the inspection
Staff have built trusting relationships with the child living in the home. The quality of these relationships was observed during the inspection. The child engaged with staff in a natural way and staff responded to them in a thoughtful, caring and sensitive manner. The child was comfortable in their surroundings and was happy to show the inspector around the home with confidence.
p.2
Findings from the inspection
The home is warm and welcoming. The child’s personal belongings are contained in various rooms in the home, making it a child-friendly environment. The child’s bedroom was clean and tidy and has been personalised to their specific taste. The child engages in a range of activities inside the home, such as construction activities, drawing and painting as well as baking and cooking. The child enjoys accompanying staff to do the food shopping on a weekly basis and learning basic budgeting skills.
p.2
Findings from the inspection
The child attends school regularly and is receiving appropriate support in accordance with their specific needs. Education plans are up to date, detailing the child’s specific support needs and how these can be met by professionals involved in the child’s care. The staff support the child with their education by accompanying them to school and remaining on site throughout the day. When asked about this, the child said, ‘I like it, it’s good.’
p.2
Findings from the inspection
The child’s health needs are met. Staff encourage the child to attend routine health appointments and have been supportive in ensuring that the child regularly attends counselling sessions. Additionally, there has been effective multi-agency working between the manager and the child’s social worker relating to a specialist assessment due to take place.
p.2
Findings from the inspection
Key-work sessions take place with children and cover topics that are relevant to the child and their specific needs. Conversations are meaningful and educational; they address issues sensitively and in line with children’s age and understanding.
p.2
Findings from the inspection
There have been three serious incidents that have taken place since the last inspection. On each occasion, the regulator was notified in a timely manner and appropriate action was taken by the staff team to ensure the child was appropriately safeguarded. Assurance inspection report for children’s home: SC480429 3 Staff monitor children’s use of electronic devices to ensure that they are having safe interactions online. The manager has arranged for the local community safety officer to visit the home to speak to the child and the staff team about various topics, including the consequences of knife crime.
p.2
Findings from the inspection
The manager is dedicated and leads by example. He is a strong advocate for children’s future success. When required, he has been proactive in escalating concerns to senior management in the child’s placing authority regarding a delay with the child’s plan that has impacted on their education. He liaises regularly with external professionals involved in the children’s care so that plans in place accurately reflect the children’s risks and needs.
p.3
Findings from the inspection
The manager has effective monitoring systems in place, and regular audits from senior management take place. This enables the manager to have effective oversight of the home, the child’s progress and development and staff practice, meaning continuous improvement can be considered and implemented.
p.3
Findings from the inspection
The staff team is stable and consistent. One member of staff has left the home and one member of staff has joined the home. New staff are supported with an induction and are subject to periodic probation reviews.
p.3
Findings from the inspection
Staff receive regular supervision and annual appraisals, and team meetings take place monthly. These are well attended and act as a forum for staff to receive updates, share ideas and celebrate staff practice. The team around the child has a consistent approach. Having an effective working team is positive for children to see and experience.
