p.1

Information about this inspection

 the care of children  the safety of children  the effectiveness of leaders and managers. The inspector has looked closely at the experiences and progress of children, using the social care common inspection framework. This assurance inspection was carried out under the Care Standards Act 2000 to assess the effectiveness of the service, how it meets the core functions of the service as set out in legislation, and to consider how well it complies with The Children’s Homes (England) Regulations 2015 and the ‘Guide to the Children’s Homes Regulations, including the quality standards’. Assurance inspection report for children’s home: 2556596 2

p.1

Findings from the inspection

We did not identify any serious or widespread concerns in relation to the care or protection of children at this assurance inspection.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

Since the last inspection, one child has moved out of the home and one child has moved into the home. The child’s move from the home was planned; however, due to safeguarding concerns, it took place quicker than expected. The child moved from the home shortly after the last full inspection.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

Both children were at the home and were spoken with as part of the inspection. Neither of the children raised any concerns about the care they are provided with while living at the home.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

Staff build positive relationships with the children. They are knowledgeable about the children and understand their needs. Staff work hard to ensure that children are supported in line with their relevant plans.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

The manager and staff support children to attend school and college; however, this has not been maintained. When children do not attend school, staff promote informal learning in the home and request the support of a tutor.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

Children’s health needs are met. Staff ensure that children’s routine health needs are monitored and that guidance from health professionals is followed. Children’s emotional needs are supported by a mental health practitioner, who offers direct work with children and advice and guidance to staff.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

Children’s plans have been consolidated and updated. They now include relevant and up-to-date information. This ensures that staff have the necessary knowledge about the children and their current behaviours and needs. There is clear management oversight within the plans, which include specific actions in relation to future work to be considered with children.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

When there are serious incidents in relation to children, these are generally managed well. However, there has been a significant delay in the manager notifying Ofsted of such incidents.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

The home has not had a registered manager since November 2023. There is an interim manager in post who has applied to register with Ofsted. She understands the children’s needs and is child focused.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

The manager has made changes to the monitoring systems in the home. These changes provide staff with clear strategies and actions to support children. This allows the manager to have oversight of care practices and to consider how these impact children. However, the required report for the review of the quality of care Assurance inspection report for children’s home: 2556596 3 provided to children has not been provided to Ofsted. The requirement for this is restated.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

Recording in children’s plans has improved. However, there have been discrepancies noted in recordings and staff practice when children require support. This has been dealt with appropriately by leaders and the manager.

p.3

Findings from the inspection

The manager has completed reflective learning workshops following the last inspection and has considered examples of practice, including how to enhance positive practice and how to avoid shortfalls. Assurance inspection report for children’s home: 2556596 4
