Information about this children’s home
The registered manager is suitably experienced and has been in post since 14 August 2023. The manager is dual registered for another home within the organisation.
p.1
This monitoring visit
This monitoring visit was conducted as Ofsted received information that was raised concerns about staff practice in the organisation. The concerns related to staff not being sufficiently trained to meet the child’s needs and failing to follow the safety plans in place. There were also concerns that staff were not promoting the child’s individual needs.
p.1
This monitoring visit
There is a structured safety plan in place for the child. The safety plan reflects the child’s deprivation of liberty order and the permissive nature of this. The safety plan has three stages which are implemented according to the current level of need for the child. Staff understand the content of the safety plan, the court order in place, and how to keep the child safe. Staff have explained the plan to the child. Inspection report for children’s home – monitoring visit: 2738499 2 Staff consistently follow the plan. The manager has made amendments to the plan when learning has been taken from any incidents and shared these with the relevant agencies. All professionals involved in the child’s care are aware of the measures in place to ensure the safety of the child.
p.1
This monitoring visit
The child was taken out by one member of staff, with other staff following in a separate vehicle. This activity was risk-assessed, but the risk assessment was not shared with the placing authority prior to the activity. This meant the placing authority could not have oversight or agree to the activity prior to it taking place.
p.2
This monitoring visit
The home environment is safe and suitable for the child. Staff undertake twice daily checks to ensure the safety of the environment and understand the changes they must make when the child’s current level of need changes. The child is allowed privacy in their bedroom, however, is subject to regular visual checks which vary in timescale according to the current level of need.
p.2
This monitoring visit
There are no staff vacancies at the home at present. When increased levels of staffing are required, staff, managers and senior leaders work additional hours. The placing authority provides agency night staff when required, so that staff that know the child well can continue to work in the day. On one occasion, a member of staff that was the subject of an allegation was on the rota to attend the home, however the manager ensured that cover was gained from elsewhere.
p.2
This monitoring visit
There is a gifting policy in place to protect the child and staff. Staff are aware of the boundaries around gift giving. Staff are also aware of the whistleblowing policy. However, on one occasion, the gifting policy was not followed, and staff did not follow the whistleblowing policy as a result.
p.2
This monitoring visit
Staff have appropriate training. They understand the needs of the child they care for. Staff attend monthly consultations with the therapist attached to the home to discuss the child’s needs and how their practice can best support them.
p.2
This monitoring visit
Staff understand concerns relating to the child’s health, such as vaping and consumption of energy drinks. Staff do not supply the child with vapes or energy drinks and have plans in place to reduce their usage.
p.2
This monitoring visit
Staff facilitate tutoring in the home and encourage the child to engage with their education. Some tutoring has been cancelled due to the prioritisation of available medical appointments. Staff never cancel education as a reward.
p.2
