The provision requires improvement
Children feel safe and secure in this nursery. They form strong attachments to staff who are caring, kind and attentive. Children are happy and separate from parents and/or their carers well. Staff support children who need extra reassurance by giving comfort and cuddles. However, the quality of teaching is variable. Children do not always receive consistently good-quality teaching or support to challenge and extend their learning. As a result, children are not always encouraged to engage in purposeful play. This results in children, at times, wandering about not playing or receiving good-quality interactions from all staff.
p.2
The provision requires improvement
Children have fun, but learning is often incidental because not all staff fully understand how children learn. The implementation of the curriculum is not always achieved, as staff do not teach this in sequence and do not fully consider children's past knowledge and experiences. For example, staff introduce activities with coloured water and ask the children what sea animals that they may find at the seaside. However, not all children understand or know what the seaside is, and staff do not consider this lack of knowledge. Consequently, children cannot contribute to the conversations. Children's health and well-being are promoted well. All children enjoy lots of time outdoors. Staff remind children about the importance of washing their hands, and they receive freshly prepared hot meals and healthy snacks. Children's voices are acknowledged. Staff always ask children if they can wipe their nose before doing so and tell them what is happening when it

need to do better?
n Leaders recognise that because of recent changes in staffing the curriculum is not deeply embedded. At times, it can be too narrow and not ambitious enough. This means that not all children gain the experiences they need to acquire the necessary skills and understanding to be ready for their next stage of development and the transition to school. n Staff do not always plan activities or experiences that sufficiently challenge children to support them to make good progress in their learning. Activities do not always ignite a curiosity for learning in children. For example, children who are old enough and capable to learn how to pedal a bike are pushed around by staff and are not encouraged to fully develop their physical skills. It is not long before they are bored and want it to stop. n Children with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) are supported by staff who work hard to provide them with experiences to promote their

learning and understanding. However, there are limited opportunities for children with SEND to be included in activities alongside their peers. This means children are not well prepared for their transition to school.
p.2
need to do better?
18 March 2025 n Staff say they feel supported. They have access to training to support them within their roles. Leaders and staff are currently implementing an action plan to evaluate the quality of teaching. Staff are reviewing their knowledge and understanding and how well the learning intent for activities is delivered. This is not yet fully embedded to raise the quality of teaching to a consistently good level. n Parents are complimentary about the nursery. They praise staff for being friendly and caring. Information is shared with parents primarily through an online app. n Staff deployment is effective in the supervision of children, especially during mealtimes. Risk assessments identify areas where further action is needed. Consequently, leaders have installed safety gates across doorways to prevent children from entering other rooms unnoticed. n Staff plan daily activities for children. Children enjoy moving to music and

singing songs. They strengthen their finger muscles by squeezing pipettes of water. This supports writing skills and pencil control. That said, more could be done to review the environment in each room to provide opportunities for children to choose free play that serves a purpose with a learning intention. For example, some rooms have a 'home corner' to invite children to role play, but there are limited resources to enhance and extend this play. n There is a focus within the curriculum for communication and language. However, not all staff implement this well enough. At times, staff do not always talk or provide a narrative for children. Some staff talk lots but then do not allow children opportunities to practise their developing language skills and sentence building structures to respond. n Children enjoy listening to stories. They sit on staff knees as they hear their favourite story. Staff support children's developing mathematical skills. They
