p.1

Information about this inspection

 the care of children  the safety of children  the effectiveness of leaders and managers. Inspectors have looked closely at the experiences and progress of children, using the social care common inspection framework. This assurance inspection was carried out under the Care Standards Act 2000 to assess the effectiveness of the service, how it meets the core functions of the service as set out in legislation, and to consider how well it complies with The Children’s Homes (England) Regulations 2015 and the ‘Guide to the Children’s Homes Regulations, including the quality standards’. Assurance inspection report for children’s home: 2744590 2

p.1

Findings from the inspection

We did not identify any serious or widespread concerns in relation to the care or protection of children at this assurance inspection.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

Leaders and managers have taken steps to rectify the shortfalls identified at the previous inspection. They are working to implement positive changes in the home, and progress has been made in relation to children’s overall experiences and safety.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

Before children move into the home, leaders and managers assess children’s individual risks and consider the needs of the children already living there. They consider staff’s skills and abilities required to meet the children’s needs. This has improved the quality of care provided to children.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

Children have positive relationships with staff, and staff understand their needs well. This is helping children to make progress from their individual starting points. One child has returned to full-time education and staff encourage them to attend school regularly. Staff support children to plan their weekly activities. They use incentives to ensure that children engage in education and positive activities.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

The manager and staff support children to maintain and strengthen their family relationships. They mediate when issues arise, and allow family visits to the home. This helps children to continue important connections, promoting their emotional well-being and sense of stability.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

Staff follow clear risk and behaviour management plans, which allow them to respond effectively and keep children safe. As a result, incidents of negative behaviours are managed well, children’s risks are reducing and their well-being is improving.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

When children go missing, staff follow protocols, contact children and encourage them to return home. They work with families and safeguarding agencies to manage the risks. When children return home, they are warmly welcomed, ensuring that they feel wanted, cared for and valued.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

The manager works in partnership with children’s professional networks very closely. Excellent feedback was given from children’s parents and one child’s social work team manager about the home, the manager and staff’s commitment and dedication to the children.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

Team meetings take place regularly and are effective. Staff receive support and constructive challenge through team meetings where they discuss important topics, such as children’s needs and risks, practice and safeguarding.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

The quality of staff supervisions has improved. They focus on children’s risks and needs as well as staff’s individual practice and development needs. However, Assurance inspection report for children’s home: 2744590 3 supervisions are not taking place regularly for all staff members in the team. This does not enable leaders and managers to have effective oversight of all staff practice and the support being given to children.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

While the care and safety of children has improved, the overall organisation of the home requires further improvement. Records, such as children’s care plans, team meeting minutes and key-work sessions, are not consistently kept organised on file or well maintained. This limits oversight, accountability and the ability to demonstrate the support provided to children.
