p.1

The provision is inadequate

The childminder does not maintain her premises to an acceptable standard. This places children at risk of significant harm and undermines their good health. The premises are unclean. Dirty pieces of cat litter are scattered throughout the home, originating from litter trays in the bathroom and kitchen, which are not cleaned before children's arrival. The positioning of these boxes mean that there are no suitable facilities for the preparation of children's food or for children's toileting needs. Significant amounts of animal faeces and urine is left next to the cooker and the toilet children use.

p.2

The provision is inadequate

Additionally, the childminder does not identify further risks within the home. Tripping hazards line the hallway and top of the stairs due to clutter. A ladder is balanced against the doorway into the kitchen. Resources are blocked from children's access due to boxes, shopping bags and other clutter. The childminder does not acknowledge the risks these items pose and feels her home is safe. This lack of awareness and ability further undermines children's safety. These issues have been raised previously with the childminder. However, she demonstrates a lack of ability to implement and maintain improvements.

p.2

The provision is inadequate

The childminder does not provide a curriculum which challenges and excites children. She does not demonstrate an understanding of how young children learn or the areas of learning she should deliver. This does not support children's progress, nor does it prepare children for the next stages in their education. Any learning is largely incidental. This impacts on children's progress.

p.2

need to do better?

n Despite actions being raised previously, the childminder's premises remain unfit for purpose. Hallways and rooms are very cluttered, which means children are exposed to multiple tripping hazards as they navigate the home. Litter trays used for the animals are not cleaned effectively and are noticeably full of faeces and urine. This means cats drag litter throughout the premises, leaving it embedded in the carpets and scattered on the floors where children play. Cats sleep on top of children's water bottles, which they later drink out of. The surfaces and floors of the kitchen, sitting room and bathroom are dirty. This significantly impacts on children's safety and personal health while in the premises. n Areas used for children's play are cluttered and, as a result, some resources are blocked. Therefore, children play with the same accessible toys repetitively and gain little learning from the experience. The childminder does not have a

purposeful and ambitious curriculum in place. She does not plan exciting, ambitious activities for children and only supports their free play on occasion.

p.2

need to do better?

13 March 2025 This means children are largely left to their own devices and spend their time watching television, playing on their own tablets or colouring. This does not support their ongoing development. n Children do not have access to suitable toileting facilities. The childminder does not ensure children have a clean toilet to use or a clean sink to wash their hands. A further litter tray is placed directly next to the toilet that children use and contains a significant amount of used cat litter. The childminder does not recognise the issues with this set up and is unable to evaluate her provision effectively. This means she does little to minimise risk or drive improvements. n Hygiene practises are extremely poor. Children are not encouraged to wash their hands before eating or after using the bathroom. Food for children is prepared in an unsafe environment. The risks to children's health from the substandard

kitchen facilities are notable. n The childminder fails to effectively risk assess her home. Additionally, she does not have a robust understanding of the procedures to follow should an allegation be made against a member of her household or herself. She further fails to keep an accurate daily record of attendance for children. These failures undermine children's safety. That said, the childminder shows a good understanding in other areas of child protection, such as recognising signs of abuse and how to report concerns about a child. n Children enjoy warm bonds with the childminder. They confidently tell her about their days and lean in close for a cuddle when they need one. The childminder listens to children and gives them her undivided attention when they need it. Children appreciate this and smile and laugh when the childminder takes some time to join their play.
