This assurance inspection was carried out under the Care Standards Act 2000 to assess the effectiveness of the service, how it meets the core functions of the service as set out in legislation, and to consider how well it complies with The Children’s Homes (England) Regulations 2015 and the ‘Guide to the Children’s Homes Regulations, including the quality standards’. p.1
Findings from the inspection
We did not identify any serious or widespread concerns in relation to the care or protection of children at this assurance inspection.
p.2
Findings from the inspection
Since the last inspection, one child has moved to live in supported accommodation. This move was planned well. With the support of staff, the child was able to choose their accommodation and staff helped him settle in. Staff have kept in touch and know that he is doing well.
p.2
Findings from the inspection
One child who was living at another home that the registered manager also manages has come to live at this home. Due to the proximity of the two homes, the child was introduced to the team gradually and at their own pace and moved when they were ready.
p.2
Findings from the inspection
Children say that they like living at the home and enjoy good relationships with all staff, who they describe as ‘cool’ or ‘chilled’ and ‘helpful’. Staff know the children well and can respond to their needs quickly to reduce the possibility of incidents escalating while also making clear expectations of what is acceptable behaviour.
p.2
Findings from the inspection
All children have made progress in all aspects of their lives. One child has lived at the home for over two years. With the help of staff and other professionals, they are now attending school, able to leave the home without the support of staff and enjoy good relationships with members of their family.
p.2
Findings from the inspection
The long-term plans for all children are to remain at this home until they are ready to move to live more independently when they are aged 18.
p.2
Findings from the inspection
All children are attending an educational provision and are doing well. The manager advocates well for children who need additional support, including relentlessly pursuing an education and health care plan for one child so that they could legally have the additional support they were entitled to. Two children are expected to gain good GCSE results.
p.2
Findings from the inspection
Children have opportunities to share their views and take part in a range of activities together or with staff, and one child celebrated their 16 th birthday in style, with balloons, cake, bespoke presents and a birthday breakfast.
p.2
Findings from the inspection
Staff know how to keep children safe, and children said that they feel safe in the home and with staff. A significant safeguarding incident was handled very well by the manager, who engaged with a range of professionals on the day of the incident and in the aftermath, when an effective plan was made to support the child involved, with positive outcomes.
p.2
Findings from the inspection
No child has been restrained for a long time. One appropriate consequence was imposed, and no child has made a complaint. Assurance inspection report for children's home: SC430239 3 The registered manager is experienced and skilled and manages the home effectively. On the day of the inspection, the home was calm and staff were clear of their duties and responsibilities.
