the care of children the safety of children the effectiveness of leaders and managers. Inspectors have looked closely at the experiences and progress of children, using the social care common inspection framework. This assurance inspection was carried out under the Care Standards Act 2000 to assess the effectiveness of the service, how it meets the core functions of the service as set out in legislation, and to consider how well it complies with The Children’s Homes (England) Regulations 2015 and the ‘Guide to the Children’s Homes Regulations, including the quality standards’. p.1
Findings from the inspection
We did not identify any serious or widespread concerns in relation to the care or protection of children at this assurance inspection.
p.2
Findings from the inspection
The three children who have lived in the home since the last full inspection have had different experiences and outcomes, with varying amounts of progress. ‘Staff supported one child to move to a new home within the same organisation that better met the child’s needs. For another child, staff were unable to keep them and others safe. As a result, notice was served and this child had to move to a new home. Staff support the third child well and help them to make positive progress. They attend school, enjoy social and recreational activities and have not been involved in any adverse incidents since moving into the home.
p.2
Findings from the inspection
At the last full inspection leaders and managers had not ensured that all members of staff working with children had completed their mandatory safeguarding training. All staff have now completed this. Meaning all staff now have the additional knowledge and skills to help keep children safe.
p.2
Findings from the inspection
Managerial oversight of incidents including those of a serious nature continues to be ineffective. Areas where lessons could be learned, or improvements need to be made have not been identified to help minimise the risk of similar incidents occurring in the future. Poor staff practice has gone unchallenged meaning staff have not been supported or encouraged to improve and develop in their roles.
p.2
Findings from the inspection
Restraint has been used infrequently to prevent children from harming themselves or others, with the last incident being September 2024. R ecords do not sufficiently detail what techniques staff used to try to and de-escalate the incident to evidence that restraint is always used as a last resort. Leader’s and manager’s evaluation failed to identify this and assure themselves that restraint was necessary and proportionate.
p.2
Findings from the inspection
The manager and staff have worked hard to form positive relationships with all three children and support them to have their needs met. The in-house therapies team delivered bespoke training to staff to give them the knowledge and additional skills that they required to help better support children’s individual needs. In addition, they provided advice and support to help staff with their wellbeing. A member of staff welcomed this help and support and felt that the whole team were stronger as a result.
