p.1

Information about this inspection

 the care of children  the safety of children  the effectiveness of leaders and managers. The inspector has looked closely at the experiences and progress of children, using the social care common inspection framework. This assurance inspection was carried out under the Care Standards Act 2000 to assess the effectiveness of the service, how it meets the core functions of the service as set out in legislation, and to consider how well it complies with The Children’s Homes (England) Regulations 2015 and the ‘Guide to the Children’s Homes Regulations, including the quality standards’. Assurance inspection report for children’s home: SC472465 2

p.1

Findings from the inspection

We did not identify any serious or widespread concerns in relation to the care or protection of children at this assurance inspection.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

Two children live in the home. The children were spoken with during the inspection. Since the full inspection, one child has moved into the home.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

The home provides children with a pleasant, homely and welcoming environment. Children are able to personalise their bedrooms. Staff decorate them in themes that illustrate children’s interests and hobbies. This helps children to settle in, feel valued and have a sense of belonging.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

Both children are receiving an education. One child’s attendance has improved since they have been living at the home. They are now achieving above their target grades at school.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

Each child has a very detailed health plan. Staff record their actions, which formulates a helpful chronology, particularly for specialist health professionals who are monitoring and overseeing children’s progress. Staff follow guidance to ensure that they meet children’s health needs. They also advocate to health professionals when the risks around children’s health increase.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

Staff have helped children to achieve stability, and they are making good progress. Both children’s social workers gave positive feedback about the care children receive. Staff help children to improve their emotional and mental well-being. Since moving in, one child’s incidents have significantly reduced, and another child is now engaging in trauma therapy.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

Risk assessments set out in detail children’s presenting risks. They contain clear guidance for staff to follow to keep children safe. Since moving into the home, children’s risks, for example incidents of self-harm and going missing from the home, have reduced.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

The registered manager’s oversight of the home has much improved. Staff are following safeguarding and reporting procedures. The manager thoroughly investigates any concerns about children’s care or safety. They identify learning and take action to improve staff practice.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

Staff receive training pertinent to children’s needs. This is clearly benefiting staff practice. Staff are more curious, and professional boundaries and expectations are better understood. Recording practice has also significantly improved.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

Staff encourage children to develop a positive sense of their identity. One child has an interactive prayer mat. Pictorial prompts displayed in their bedroom help them to understand their daily routine. This has helped the child, who is new to the home, to settle in, and has also provided them with familiarity and reassurance. Assurance inspection report for children’s home: SC472465 3 Safety measures in place to monitor children’s online use are good. When there are concerns, staff and managers respond appropriately to keep children safe. Measures in place support children when they are online. Staff form positive relationships with children. As a result, children trust staff and confide in them about any worries they have. This helps staff to respond promptly to any concerns about children’s safety.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

Managers have effective monitoring systems in place. They regularly complete learning reviews. This promotes continuous improvement in the care children receive.

p.3

Findings from the inspection

Staff support children to keep in touch with people who are important to them. However, for one child, guidance to monitor them when having a visitor was not clear enough. This compromised their welfare. A thorough investigation was carried out. The registered manager also completed a detailed review, and lessons were learned. They are taking action to implement their recommendations. This will ensure that expectations are clearly understood by all professionals.

p.3
