p.1

The provision is good

Children are very happy and settled in this experienced childminder's care. They are welcoming to visitors, and, with the childminder's reassuring presence, their confidence to chat and play grows. The childminder knows the children extremely well, having cared for most of them since they were very young. Children show they have secure relationships with the childminder and approach her for reassurance and cuddles throughout the day.

p.2

The provision is good

The childminder is clear about what she wants children to learn and why. Her curriculum focuses on the prime areas of learning, supporting children's communication and language and encouraging their physical skills and self- confidence. Children thoroughly enjoy sensory play and are absorbed as they play with dried rice. They develop good hand-eye coordination as they transfer the rice from pot to pot. Children have great fun experimenting as they paint and print animal shapes and feel the texture of the paint on their fingers. This supports children's creativity.

p.2

The provision is good

Children are very interested to learn, and their behaviour is very good. Children receive lots of praise and encouragement from the childminder and learn about using good manners. They play cooperatively together, learning to share and take turns. This supports them to develop good social skills for when they are ready for school and later life.

p.2

need to do better?

n The childminder encourages children to develop a love of books and stories. She has a wonderful selection of age-appropriate books, which children access freely. Children show a fondness for stories and excitedly join the childminder to read 'The Three Little Pigs'. After reading the story, children enjoy role play, where the childminder encourages children to act out the story using props of toy pigs, as well as straw, twigs and bricks to build the pigs' houses. This helps children to remember more and repeat actions from the story. n The childminder supports children's communication and language soundly. She encourages lots of conversations as children play. However, on occasion, she does not give children enough time to think and respond to questions she asks. n The childminder has a good understanding of child development, and she regularly assesses children's progress and identifies their next steps in learning.

p.2

need to do better?

She is aware that younger children's attention spans are shorter and organises her home with a selection of resources that enable them to choose most toys. She supports their learning, sitting close by to support them. However, sometimes she redirects children's play too quickly and does not give them time to explore the resources before they move on to other learning experiences.

10 March 2025 n Children show interest in different-sized 'compare bears'. The childminder talks to them about the different sizes and colours, which supports children's early understanding of mathematical concepts. n The childminder has a good knowledge of recognising when children need additional support, and she is aware of communicating closely with parents to ensure that children get the right support quickly. n Parents speak highly of the childminder and are extremely happy with the care and education their children receive. Parents' comments include that the childminder has a genuine love for children and provides a stimulating environment. The childminder communicates with parents on a daily basis, keeping them fully updated on their child's day. n The childminder completes regular training. She accesses various childcare- related webinars to support her development. She also works closely with other

childminders, and they support and help each other's professional development. This helps the childminder to keep up to date with any changes to legislation or practice. n The childminder has a good understanding of managing children's behaviour and emotions. She knows the children very well and is a good role model, being calm in her approach and speaking to children in a gentle way. n The childminder provides children with daily opportunities to learn about their community. The childminder plans outings to various parks or nature reserves, often with other childminders. This supports children to develop an understanding of differences and similarities in the community and enables them to have a wider circle of friends to play and learn to share with.
