The provision is good
Children are happy and settled with the childminder. They form strong bonds with her and feel safe in her care. Through attentive and responsive interactions, the childminder supports children's emotional well-being, helping them to develop confidence and a sense of belonging. The childminder promotes positive behaviour by consistently modelling and reinforcing good manners, sharing and cooperation. She uses age-appropriate strategies, such as praise and encouragement, and reads books about kindness and sharing to the children. This helps children understand what is expected from them.
p.2
The provision is good
The childminder supports all children to make good progress in their learning and development. She provides a wide range of stimulating and developmentally appropriate activities tailored to each child's interests and needs. She regularly observes children and notes what they can do. She uses this information to assess children's progress and plan individualised next steps in learning. This helps each child to continually learn new knowledge and skills. The childminder actively promotes children's physical well-being through a variety of engaging activities. She encourages children to participate in outdoor play, providing opportunities for them to develop their physical skills through activities. Children become absorbed in water play and using spray bottles. This helps children become more confident in their physical abilities and develop better fine motor strength.

need to do better?
n The childminder has a strong understanding of how young children learn and ensures that all children have access to a well-rounded and suitably challenging curriculum. She focuses her planning to enable children to spend additional time on the skills that they need to practise. The childminder provides a range of well-organised resources around children's interests that support their learning. Learning is enhanced by good-quality activities, that are informed by knowing the children and their personalities well. n The childminder provides a running commentary on children's play and introduces new language to them to enhance their vocabulary development. She repeats words back to children, so they hear the correct pronunciation. However, on some occasions, the childminder does not give children enough time to respond to questions, to think critically and solve problems for themselves. This does not always enhance their understanding of the flow of conversations and

The childminder extends children's understanding of number in activities they enjoy. She encourages children to count as they scoop the ingredients. This promotes their knowledge and

4 March 2025 understanding of mathematics. n Children benefit from the praise and encouragement the childminder frequently gives them. The childminder sets effective and consistent boundaries for children, so they know what is expected of them. They readily follow simple instruction and routines. Children show positive behaviours as they confidently tidy up the resources they have been playing with before selecting other activities. n The childminder's familiar routines help young children to know what is happening next. Overall, she supports children to develop their independence. For example, they wash their hands before mealtimes and feed themselves. However, at times, opportunities to help children build on their independence are not consistently encouraged. For instance, in her enthusiasm she does some tasks for children, such as dressing them for outdoor play. n The childminder teaches children about diversity by incorporating books,

activities and discussions that reflect different cultures, backgrounds and experiences. For example, she reads stories about festivals from another country and then engages the children in related activities, such as visits to the local community to see and make lanterns for Chinese New Year. The childminder encourages children to appreciate and respect differences. This approach fosters an inclusive environment, where children develop a understanding of the world around them. n The childminder actively engages in ongoing professional development and training to enhance her teaching practice. She skilfully targets professional development to meet the needs of the children she cares for, and shares information gathered with parents to promote consistency. This benefits the children's learning experiences. Parents are very complimentary about the childminder. They mention how their children are happy, safe and well cared for.
