p.1

Overall experiences and progress of children and young people: good

Staff and leaders offer children who come to live in the home a warm welcome. Staff prepare bedrooms for new children thoughtfully, including having well-stocked welcome packs with toiletries and a diary. Communal areas are well maintained and offer a pleasant alternative to bedrooms for children to spend time in. These touches and the pleasant environment have helped the child to quickly feel comfortable in the home.

p.2

Overall experiences and progress of children and young people: good

Staff are attuned to the needs of the child. Staff know the child well and tailor their support and nurturing approach. Staff reflect with the child in regular discussions about their personal development and life journey. The child uses these discussions to request advice and support, which staff respond to well. For example, the child wanted support to open a bank account. One professional noted that staff have a good overview of the child’s needs.

p.2

Overall experiences and progress of children and young people: good

Staff are committed to ensuring that the child accesses appropriate learning opportunities and education. Staff have worked with relevant agencies to arrange an alternative educational provision to support the child’s academic development. This is developing the child’s interest in returning to mainstream education.

p.2

Overall experiences and progress of children and young people: good

Staff promote cultural awareness. Staff have introduced a choice of different cultural food menus. This has encouraged the child to expand their culinary skills and recipe choices. A parent said that they will be visiting the home to share their cooking recipes with their child so they can cook together. Staff are in full support of this.

p.2

Overall experiences and progress of children and young people: good

Staff promote the child’s health. The child is registered with universal services, and staff support them to attend appointments to ensure that their medical needs are met. Staff also encourage healthy eating habits. The child now picks healthier food options and has increased how much fruit they eat.

p.2

How well children and young people are helped and protected: good

Leaders and managers communicate with partner agencies effectively. They ensure that relevant information is shared, and concerns are raised promptly. One professional told the inspector that leaders and managers consistently work in partnership to meet the needs of the child.

p.2

How well children and young people are helped and protected: good

Care plans and support strategies are collaboratively reviewed among the staff. Managers oversight is thorough to ensure that any shortfalls in the quality of care are recognised quickly and addressed. This is a successful approach to care and safeguarding children. Inspection report for children's home: 2769374 3 Staff respect the child’s wishes and feelings. House meetings take place regularly and are child centred. Engagement is positive, and the child can express their views confidently. This promotes their confidence and sense of belonging in the home.

p.2

How well children and young people are helped and protected: good

Staff advocate on behalf of the child. They source additional specialist services to promote and support the child’s well-being and safety if needed. Through one-to-one discussions, this has helped the child to develop awareness of how to keep themselves safe and to make positive choices in the home and the community.

p.3

The effectiveness of leaders and managers: good

Leaders and managers have high aspirations for children. They ensure that staff have the right knowledge and understand the child’s individual needs. Staff are confident with the quality of care they deliver as they receive tailored, comprehensive training.

p.3

The effectiveness of leaders and managers: good

Leaders and managers have good oversight of the home. They have effective monitoring and reviewing systems in place. Staff receive direction to address any shortfalls in practice and improve the care they provide. This consistent oversight promotes the child receiving personalised care to meet their needs.

p.3

The effectiveness of leaders and managers: good

Staff have regular supervision. Discussions are child focused and recorded in detail. Leaders and managers hear the views of staff and provide good practice advice. These discussions support staff to attune their care.

p.3

The effectiveness of leaders and managers: good

Staff and leaders see team meetings as an important forum, and they are well attended. Leaders focus these meetings on supporting staff to develop practice, the successful operation of the home and the quality of care staff give to the child. Inspection report for children's home: 2769374 4
