Le Wagon UK Limited Monitoring visit report

p.1

Name of lead inspector: Claudia Harrison, His Majesty’s Inspector

p.1

Type of provider: Independent learning provider

p.1

Address: Unit 13 Shoreditch Stables (North) 138 Kingsland Road London E2 8DY Monitoring visit: Le Wagon UK Limited, 20 February 2025

p.1

Context and focus of visit

This is the follow-up monitoring visit to Le Wagon UK Limited following publication of the new provider monitoring visit in December 2024, where inspectors found the provider to have made insufficient progress in ensuring effective safeguarding arrangements are in place.

p.2

Context and focus of visit

Le Wagon UK Limited is an independent learning provider based in the London Borough of Hackney. It teaches online Skills Bootcamps in data analytics and web development to adult learners around the country. At the time of the monitoring visit, 44 learners had recently completed the online training element of the web development Skills Bootcamp, and 39 learners had recently completed the online training element of the data analytics Skills Bootcamp.

p.2

Reasonable progress

Leaders foster a culture of safeguarding that includes making sure that learners behave in a professional manner in training sessions and in online communication channels. Learners feel safe during online training sessions. They rightly speak highly of the support they receive from staff, who check on their well-being frequently.

p.2

Reasonable progress

Leaders and managers have put in place appropriate policies and processes to keep their learners safe. For example, they conduct comprehensive checks to identify and then provide support to vulnerable adult learners. A trained safeguarding lead follows up safeguarding concerns effectively.

p.2

Reasonable progress

Following the previous monitoring visit, leaders took timely steps to review and improve their ‘Prevent’ duty policy, risk assessment and action plan. Their plans now identify relevant risks and contain actions to make remote teaching as safe as possible. For example, teachers no longer allow learners to message each other directly outside of monitored online channels during lessons. However, leaders do not make good enough use of external organisations to stay informed about specific risks to their learners and update their plans accordingly.

p.2

Reasonable progress

Leaders acted swiftly after their most recent monitoring visit to make sure that teaching and support staff had completed suitable safeguarding and ‘Prevent’ duty training. This included training in how to teach learners about the risks they may face when working in data analytics and web development, such as how remote Monitoring visit: Le Wagon UK Limited, 20 February 2025 workers can respond to and report inappropriate communications. Staff have used this training well to teach their students.

p.2

Reasonable progress

Leaders ensure that learners have received comprehensive training in how to keep themselves safe from the dangers of radicalisation and extremism. Learners know how to spot and report signs of radicalisation and are aware of extreme ideologies that they might be exposed to online. Monitoring visit: Le Wagon UK Limited, 20 February 2025 regulates and inspects to achieve excellence in the care of children and young people, and in education and skills for learners of all ages. It regulates and inspects childcare and children’s social care, and inspects the Children and Family Court Advisory and Support Service (Cafcass), schools, colleges, initial teacher training, further education and skills, adult and community learning, and education and training in prisons and other secure establishments. It assesses council children’s services, and inspects services for children looked after, safeguarding and child protection.
