the care of children the safety of children the effectiveness of leaders and managers. The inspector has looked closely at the experiences and progress of children, using the social care common inspection framework. This assurance inspection was carried out under The Care Standards Act 2000 to assess the effectiveness of the service, how it meets the core functions of the service as set out in legislation, and to consider how well it complies with The Children’s Homes (England) Regulations 2015 and the ‘Guide to the Children’s Homes Regulations, including the quality standards’. p.1
Findings from the inspection
Ofsted did not identify any serious or widespread concerns in relation to the care or protection of children at this assurance inspection.
p.2
Findings from the inspection
Due to unforeseen circumstances, the deputy manager is overseeing the home with the support of the senior management team in the absence of the registered manager. There have been some delays in case recordings being finalised and supervision notes being typed up on the appropriate format. However, no serious shortfalls were identified within the leadership and management of the home.
p.2
Findings from the inspection
There have been no concerns since the last inspection in relation to the timeliness of the manager submitting serious concerns to Ofsted. When there has been a serious incident, the recording of this is detailed and contains the actions staff have taken to safeguard the children. Concerns about child exploitation are taken seriously and any identified risks are appropriately managed and reported to the relevant professionals.
p.2
Findings from the inspection
The children’s guide has been updated to include information on how children can make a complaint, which promotes their rights and voices to be heard. Complaints from the children are managed appropriately and children receive feedback and information about what staff have done to address their complaints. Children provide their own feedback and say that their complaints were dealt with well.
p.2
Findings from the inspection
The children have contributed to the new children’s guide to include elements that they see as important for new children moving into the home. Furthermore, the managers and staff team gain regular feedback from the children, which they use to inform any changes in the home.
p.2
Findings from the inspection
The children benefit from the support of police community support officers, who they have a good relationship with. These police officers understand the children’s risks and work effectively with the staff team to ensure that the children are kept safe, especially in relation to risks in the community. Staff have discussions with the children about their safety and how they can keep themselves safer in the community.
p.2
Findings from the inspection
There have been occasions when the children have gone missing from home. These have been managed well by staff, who follow the children’s risk assessments and safety plans and make all efforts to locate the children quickly to ensure their safety. There have been delays in multi-agency meetings taking place after missing-from- care episodes. However, the deputy manager has challenged the placing authority regarding the timeliness of these meetings. Assurance inspection report for children’s home: 2728982 3
