p.1

The provision is good

Children settle well and thoroughly enjoy their time spent in the childminder's inviting home. Children are enthusiastic learners, excited to engage and explore the various stimulating activities available. The childminder knows children well and designs a curriculum based on their interests and needs. For example, for children who prefer outdoor activities, the childminder organises exciting outings, where they experience and explore nature first hand. Children take bags to collect natural objects, such as twigs, leaves and stones, to bring back to the setting. The childminder plans activities that include these items, such as recreating favourite stories. This supports children's engagement and curiosity well.

n The childminder offers a broad and well-balanced curriculum. Children have good opportunities for mathematical development, in particular with regard to number and counting. She skilfully weaves counting into children's play throughout the day. For example, children sing number songs, count toys and listen as she counts 'one, two, three, go' before they roll cars down the slide. n The childminder promotes children's communication and language skills well. She talks to children while they play and introduces a range of new words. For instance, she introduces 'sticky' and 'stretchy' as children manipulate dough. The childminder provides a language-rich environment. She uses gestures and simple signing when speaking and asks appropriate questions to gauge children's understanding. This helps to extend children's developing vocabulary effectively. n The childminder promotes a love of books. Children enjoy snuggling up on the

The childminder collects words in children's home languages. She incorporates these, as well as her own, into their play. This helps to broaden children's awareness of the diversity of cultures represented in the setting. n Parent feedback is positive. She reflects on her provision and regularly seeks parents' views to identify strengths and areas for development. The childminder demonstrates a positive attitude towards her professional development. For example, in addition to her mandatory training, she also attends a wide range of online courses to further her knowledge and skills.
