p.1
The provision is inadequate
Children are not safeguarded at this nursery. Staff, including the lead for safeguarding, have not responded to concerns raised about children so that relevant agencies are informed in a timely way. Staff are not always deployed effectively to ensure children are adequately supervised, particularly when playing outdoors.
p.2
The provision is inadequate
Some weaknesses identified at the previous inspection remain. Leaders have not ensured that staff have an improved understanding of their roles and responsibilities. Some routine tasks are not completed to ensure the environment and equipment children use is clean and suitable for them. This compromises children's health and well-being.
p.2
The provision is inadequate
Leaders have introduced a curriculum which spans across all age groups in the nursery. Staff plan activities which are designed to meet the learning needs of the children they care for. For example, younger children are exposed to lots of activities where they can explore materials, and older children have opportunities to recognise numbers and letters. However, teaching across the nursery is inconsistent. Staff who teach younger children do not provide high-quality interactions to help them make the best possible progress in their learning. That said, older children are learning the skills they need to prepare them for their move on to school. They follow well-established routines, learn how to be more independent, and are starting to make friends with their peers. Staff support children to understand how their behaviour affects others, and use strategies to help them develop patience when learning how to share toys with their friends.

need to do better?
n Leaders and staff fail to take prompt action when they have safeguarding concerns about children in their care. They do not follow the correct procedures to report safeguarding concerns to the relevant agencies. This puts children at risk of harm. n Leaders have not thoroughly addressed the previous weaknesses raised at the last inspection. Staff continue to lack understanding about their roles and responsibilities. They fail to complete basic tasks, such as ensuring the equipment in the outdoor area is suitable for children to use. Additionally, they do not complete general tidying up in areas where children play, which means children struggle to navigate the space around them. As a result, staff do not provide a suitable and safe environment for children. n The arrangements for staff deployment are not effective. Staff do not always ensure children are within sight or hearing. Children wander into areas of the

outdoor space which are not visible to staff. This goes unnoticed, which results

need to do better?
3 February 2025 in children not being supervised appropriately. n Some equipment children use is not kept clean. Staff fail to remove standing water which has gathered in containers, where equipment is stored outdoors. They do not recognise that equipment left in this condition is not appropriate for children to play with. Instead, they hand wet skipping ropes to children from these containers and allow them to use them. Consequently, children's health is compromised. n Interactions between staff and children are inconsistent. While older children are engaged in purposeful learning which is guided by staff, younger children spend much of their time wandering around finding something to do. They take materials out of trays and drop them on the floor, and generally pick up toys and then put them back down. Although staff sometimes describe what children are doing, they do not support them to increase their knowledge or skills

appropriately. This means that not all children make the best possible progress in their learning. n In the main, children are learning to be independent. Staff encourage children to make their own sandwiches at lunchtime. Children scoop jam from a jar and spread it on bread. Staff provide support when needed. Older children learn to put their own coats on before going outdoors, and staff work with parents to help children become toilet trained. This helps children gain some important skills for their eventual move on to school. n Parents and carers comment positively about the nursery. Leaders have taken steps to introduce ideas to help parents support children's learning at home. They communicate information in a variety of ways so that parents are well informed about children's time at nursery. Parents and carers comment that children settle well and are happy to attend.
