p.1

The provision is good

The childminder creates a warm and welcoming environment for children. As a result, children feel safe and secure in her care, knowing that she is there to support them emotionally. They confidently approach her for comfort and cuddles, expressing their needs and affection. The childminder is a positive role model, establishing clear boundaries for children to follow, which contributes to their good behaviour. She helps young children to learn to manage their feelings effectively.

p.2

The provision is good

The childminder eagerly engages with children and participates in their play activities. For example, she communicates effectively with children, reinforcing the correct use of words and proper sentence formation. This approach helps to enhance children's developing communication and language skills. Additionally, the childminder supports children's understanding of mathematics by teaching them to count accurately and introducing new vocabulary for comparing capacity. For instance, she teaches children about 'full' and 'empty' as they explore containers with coloured rice.

p.2

The provision is good

Children exhibit confidence and motivation to learn, feeling comfortable in the childminder's home environment. They build positive relationships with their peers and the childminder. The childminder plans exciting and challenging experiences that cover all areas of the curriculum, which further motivates children's learning and development.

p.2

need to do better?

n The childminder regularly reflects on her practice and values the opinions of parents and carers. She is aware of her strengths and weaknesses and has participated in some online courses and mandatory training. However, she has not focused her plans for professional development to enhance her practice further, to provide a higher standard of care and education for all children. n The childminder supports children's readiness for school in various ways. She encourages children to wear their coats and shoes and to help tidy up after their play. Older children show a strong interest in counting, shapes and number puzzles. For instance, they engage in number matching activities with the childminder and complete number puzzles on their own. However, there are times when the childminder does not give children enough time to finish their activities or complete their games before transitioning them to a new activity.

p.2

need to do better?

n The childminder uses her local community and her garden effectively to provide children with daily opportunities for fresh air and exercise. She takes children on visits to local parks, soft-play centres and the library. The childminder uses these outings to help to foster children's social skills and an understanding of the world they live in.

p.2

need to do better?

4 February 2025 n The childminder collaborates closely with parents and other professionals, including local schools and early years advisers. This ensures continuity of care for children. She provides parents with suggestions for children's learning at home. The childminder offers regular, detailed reports on their children's achievements. Parents express high praise for the childminder, describing her as caring, adaptable and trustworthy. n Children make steady progress from their initial developmental stages, including those in receipt of additional funding. The childminder understands each child's individual needs and interests well. She observes and assesses children's achievements carefully, planning activities that align with their interests and next steps in learning.

p.2

n Children are naturally curious and eager to learn new things. Younger children express this curiosity by pulling and pressing different parts of interactive toys, giggling with delight as they discover music and lights. Meanwhile, older children enjoy singing songs and using finger puppets to bring those songs and rhymes to life. n The childminder also encourages children's good health by collaborating with parents to ensure that children enjoy a balanced diet of healthy meals that they provide. She promotes good hygiene practices throughout the day. For example, children wash their hands before lunch and after returning from the garden.
