Information about this inspection
the care of children the safety of children the effectiveness of leaders and managers. The inspector has looked closely at the experiences and progress of children, using the social care common inspection framework. This assurance inspection was carried out under the Care Standards Act 2000 to assess the effectiveness of the service, how it meets the core functions of the service as set out in legislation, and to consider how well it complies with The Children’s Homes (England) Regulations 2015 and the 'Guide to the Children’s Homes Regulations, including the quality standards'. p.1
Findings from the inspection
We did not identify any serious or widespread concerns in relation to the care or protection of children at this assurance inspection.
p.2
Findings from the inspection
At the time of the inspection, three children were living at the home. Two children spoke with the inspector and shared positive feedback. One child shared that their favourite thing about the home was the staff team, and that they always felt safe. Another child shared that they were ‘very happy’.
p.2
Findings from the inspection
The purpose of the assurance inspection was to review physical interventions. This was due to two incidents where high level interventions were used. Physical interventions are carried out safely, and staff try to redirect challenging behaviours when supporting children. Staff will mostly attempt a lower-level intervention prior to using a higher-level intervention. However, on one occasion it was not clear what other interventions had been tried first. Also, when staff do use higher-level interventions, there is not always a suitable number of staff available to support other children in the home.
p.2
Findings from the inspection
Leaders and staff support children to prepare them for independence. Children are confident in asking leaders and staff to support them in how to approach shops for employment and conduct themselves in interviews.
p.2
Findings from the inspection
Staff provide children with positive experiences. They are supported to build positive relationships with each other. As a result, children live happier in the home. Children engage in a range of activities outside of the home. This includes being taken to the gym and football clubs and holidays.
p.2
Findings from the inspection
Leaders and staff have a good understanding of children’s health needs. Children are supported to attend regular health appointments; leaders have good oversight over health appointments to ensure children are making progress. There are clear risk management plans in place for self-harm and suicidal ideation. Leaders have advocated for children to have bespoke support in place, including regular child and adolescent mental health services appointments. As a result, children continue to make progress in this area.
p.2
Findings from the inspection
The environment is warm and homely. Since the previous inspection, leaders have arranged refurbishment to create a child-focused home. Children’s bedrooms are decorated well and are individualised.
p.2
Findings from the inspection
Leaders and staff respond to missing-from-care incidents well. Staff have a good understanding of children’s missing-from-care protocols and follow these. There is good communication with external professionals regarding updates. This has contributed to young people being located promptly. Assurance inspection report for children's home: SC366104 3

Recommendations
