Information about this inspection
the care of children the safety of children the effectiveness of leaders and managers. Inspectors have looked closely at the experiences and progress of children, using the social care common inspection framework. This assurance inspection was carried out under the Care Standards Act 2000 to assess the effectiveness of the service, how it meets the core functions of the service as set out in legislation, and to consider how well it complies with The Children’s Homes (England) Regulations 2015 and the ‘Guide to the Children’s Homes Regulations, including the quality standards’. p.1
Findings from the inspection
We did not identify any serious or widespread concerns in relation to the care or protection of children at this assurance inspection.
p.2
Findings from the inspection
At the time of the inspection, two children were living in the home. One child briefly spoke with the inspector and said that they were happy.
p.2
Findings from the inspection
Staff ensure that children have a positive experience of moving in and out of the home. One child had been supported well by leaders and staff during a move back to their family home. Leaders ensured that the child was provided with a gym membership and financial support in the early stages of their move. Due to this support, the child had felt more equipped for their move. Robust risk assessments are in place for new children moving into the home. This has assured leaders that they can meet the specific needs of all children.
p.2
Findings from the inspection
When self-harm concerns arise, leaders and staff manage this well. Clinical support is in place for staff during team meetings. This enables staff to understand how to work effectively with the child. As a result, there has been a reduction in the amount of self-harm concerns in the home.
p.2
Findings from the inspection
Leaders have implemented appropriate risk management plans that consider all aspects of staff recruitment. Leaders ensure that staff are regularly supervised and that there are appropriate shift plans to ensure that children remain safeguarded.
p.2
Findings from the inspection
Staff respond to children going missing well. Staff understand children’s risk management plans and ensure that they do all they can to locate them. Appropriate follow-up action takes place upon children’s return. However, the recording in the home is not always clear or consistent. On occasion, subjective language has been used. Leaders highlight that recording is a current area of development.
p.2
Findings from the inspection
Since the last inspection, there have been improvements made to most of the home environment. Leaders and staff have worked to create a homely environment in the communal areas, including the kitchen, lounge and hallway. However, in one child’s bedroom there were signs of them smoking, and their window restrictor had been broken without staff being aware of this. The child has previously left the home through their bedroom window, which posed a risk. Assurance inspection report for children’s home: 2624155 3
