The provision is good
Children arrive at this warm and caring setting eager to start their day. They have a close bond with this enthusiastic childminder, who views what she does as a way of life, rather than a career. Children happily share their time between the childminder and her assistant, approaching them with toys to play with or for cuddles. This demonstrates that they feel secure and safe.
p.2
The provision is good
The childminder is a positive role model for the children. She uses her training on emotional literacy to support the children well. She helps young children to start to understand their emotions and build resilience, knowing that this supports children's ability to learn. This focus on emotions has also helped to build on the childminder's safeguarding knowledge and become more vigilant, which further protects the children in her care.
p.2
The provision is good
Children benefit from a range of outings planned by the childminder and her assistant. They enjoy taking children outside for walks in the woods, where children can go on scavenger hunts, look for the local cows, and make dens to eat their snack in. Children's interest in the outdoors is further promoted as the childminder takes them to local forest school sessions.

need to do better?
n The childminder follows safer recruitment practices and supports the practice of assistants well. She holds regular meetings with assistants to evaluate practice and identify training opportunities. Assistants share that they feel well supported. As a result, morale is high and there is a positive atmosphere in the setting. n The childminder knows each child in her care well. She plans her curriculum based on children's interests, what they can do and what she wants them to learn next. The childminder introduces different themes throughout the year to support children in their learning and develop new skills. At times however, interactions by the childminder and her assistant are not fully focused on children's next steps in learning, to provide children with consistent opportunities to extend their learning further. n Children develop positive attitudes to learning and are busy in their play. explore their environment with confidence and consequently, the childminder and her assistant deploy themselves well to make sure children are well supervised. For instance, when the childminder cuddles a child who has just woken from a sleep, the assistant goes to sit with some older children for a story. They eagerly bring her books and listen intently. n The childminder helps children to learn about cultures different to their own and various festivals that people celebrate throughout the year. For example, the

need to do better?
29 January 2025 childminder teaches children about Lunar New Year and the Year of the Snake. Children have fun creating snakes from paper plates and making money bags. They start to learn how to use scissors to cut out their bags. However, at times, children's learning is affected by the television being on. They lose concentration as they stop to briefly watch the television. n Hygiene and care practices are good. The childminder follows children's sleep routines from home and gently attends to children's personal care needs. She supports parents with the stages of weaning from pureed to solid food. Children enjoy a range of healthy snacks and home-cooked meals, which raises their awareness of the benefits of a healthy lifestyle. n Children form close friendships with each other. They play collaboratively and give each other cuddles. Children demonstrate good behaviour. For example, when they want to play with some wheeled toys, the childminder asks them to

help tidy up first. The children willingly do so and smile with pride when the childminder praises them for their hard work. n The childminder has established good partnerships with parents and other settings that children attend. Parents comment on the good communication and the regular updates regarding their children's progress. Parents appreciate the childminder's feedback on what their children are showing an interest in and what support their children might need so that they can replicate this at home.
