p.1

Information about this inspection

 the care of children  the safety of children  the effectiveness of leaders and managers. The inspector has looked closely at the experiences and progress of children, using the social care common inspection framework. This assurance inspection was carried out under the Care Standards Act 2000 to assess the effectiveness of the service, how it meets the core functions of the service as set out in legislation, and to consider how well it complies with The Children’s Homes (England) Regulations 2015 and the ‘Guide to the Children’s Homes Regulations, including the quality standards’. Assurance inspection report for children’s home: 2718094 2

p.1

Findings from the inspection

We did not identify any serious or widespread concerns in relation to the care or protection of children at this assurance inspection.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

Since the last full inspection, five children have moved out of the home. At the point of this assurance inspection, three children were living at the home.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

The registered manager implemented an action plan to address the shortfalls that were raised at the last inspection.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

The home has experienced a period of instability, which has led to a significant rise in serious incidents. The staff have often needed the support of the police to manage these incidents.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

The registered manager and staff have not always been effective in mitigating risks relating to children’s vulnerabilities or supporting their progress.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

Although there is an established team of staff who know the children and understand their needs, there is a continuous need for staff to strengthen their relationships with the children.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

Allegations are managed effectively, with the registered manager consulting the local authority designated officer whenever allegations are made. The registered manager ensures that investigations are carried out and that children are supported throughout this process.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

Staff receive mandatory training, including intervention training, to help them manage incidents. However, staff lack reflection in understanding the importance of relationships when managing children’s behaviour.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

The registered manager is child centred and consistently maintains oversight of incidents. However, the registered manager does not always provide a comprehensive review of safeguarding incidents or ensure that all details of these incidents are reported to the regulator.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

The home environment is excellent. The home is well maintained, and the staff work hard to make it a comfortable and homely environment. The garden has been redesigned and is a pleasant outside space for children.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

The registered manager provides good support to the staff team and organises regular team meetings. Staff receive regular supervision, which offers opportunities to discuss their learning and development needs and review their practice.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

Children have lots of opportunities to enjoy their time living at the home. They take part in a range of activities, including going to the cinema, having meals out and going on trips to central London. Assurance inspection report for children’s home: 2718094 3
